Teres, redpoint or galibier turntable
Returning to the original poster's request for turntable recommendations, I can offer a couple of comments. Trying to audition turntables can be next to impossible, and very few folks will ever have the opportunity to try different tables of this ...
Why does this old tube gear sound so good?
I am not surprised at all by your preference for the Mac gear. My question is why do you use your "normal" gear when the vintage eqpt sounds better?Dave
Is it worth this tonearm?
Peter, I recently switched from a Moerch DP-6 (with 12" Red wand) to a Triplanar, each used on a Galibier Gavia. In my opinion, they are both excellent arms and, with the right cartridge, are each capable of top flight performance. It is hard to p...
A challenge: Reference system from 15yrs ago
I heard the following system at High C Stereo in Virginia in the mid-1980's. I can still recall vividly how realistic it sounded.Crosby modified QuadsARC D-70ARC SP-10Linn table and arm/Koetsu BlackI don't know that things have advanced all that m...
Top turntables?
I agree totally with Richard (Palasr). It may not be coincidental that he and I are using the exact same setup---Galibier Gavia, Triplanar VII and Denon 103R. The phono hierarchy should be table first, then arm, then cartridge. Part of my reason f...
Top turntables?
Another satisfied Galibier owner here. I totally agree with Flyingred and Restock. They did a good job of describing what makes the Galibier such a great sounding table. Excellent detail and dynamics both micro and macro, a quiet black background,...
Vintage vinyl or new reissues?
I agree with Pops completely. Hardly any reissues IME sound as good as the originals. True, the reissues are often quieter and they don't have the mistracking damage that the originals have often suffered. And you can buy them without having to le...
What Makes a Good RIAA or Line Stage?
I can vouch for a number of StephenR's discoveries. He mentioned the sonic importance of heater supplies, and how they affect the sound quality just as much as the B+ supply. It may sound crazy, but he's right. In my linestage, I have tried differ...
tonearm match ZYX Universe Moerch and Triplanar
Following up on Thom's comment, I recently changed from the DP-6 to the Triplanar and I certainly don't have buyer's remorse. As I noted earlier in this thread, the Triplanar is a better sounding arm, but that doesn't change the fact that the Moer...
tonearm match ZYX Universe Moerch and Triplanar
I have never used a ZYX, so I can't respond directly to your question. I did recently replace my DP-6 with 12" Red wand with a Triplanar VII.2 so I do have some idea of the differences between the two arms. The Triplanar has greater resolution and...
Need Cart Rec for Moerch DP-6
The choice depends on which arm wand you're using. I had very good results with a Benz Glider M2 in a 12" Red wand on my DP-6. Also a Benz L2 but that is a bit over your price range if you buy new.Dave
Moerch DP6 or UP 4
Do a search at Vinyl Asylum for a post by Fretless regarding both Moerch arms. He has a UP-4 and has listened to the DP-6 as well. I have used a DP-6 with 12" red wand for nearly 3 years, and have been very pleased with it. It sounds very good and...
Re-issue vinyl vs. the original pressing
Salvatore's comments are mainly directed to classical reissues. He says in the text that: "The original pressings of Rock, Pop and Jazz LPs are almost always preferable to the vast majority of their respective reissues."I can certainly vouch for ...
What Turntable to Buy
Clarock, a couple of additional comments. Before my Galibier, I used a VPI 19 Mk.III with SDS and VPI JMW-10. Cartridge was a Glider M2. I went to the Galibier Gavia, first with what is now called the Serac platter (PVC) and I then upgraded to the...
