Gaining listening experience without spending money
You can start off by buying used components. This allows you to affordably find what you like. Later you can buy new components or higher quality used components. Of course, Audiogon is a great place to do this.

If you’re interested in classical music, start a 30-day trial of the Berlin Philharmonic Digital Concert Hall. It is fascinating to see and hear a piece performed once in 2010, and again with a different conductor in 2017. You may not gain experie...
Berlin Philharmonic- Digital Concert Hall - Free !
I did a quick search and came up with this link. https://www.berliner-philharmoniker.de/en/titelgeschichten/20192020/digital-concert-hall/ The offer is to get DCH free for 30 days.  @tomic601 , thanks for the information!
A Sonos Move or a pair of Sonos 1's
My understanding is that the refurbished Play:1s are the most recent model and will be compatible with the new S2 system. If you want better sound than that in a stationary setup, I would get two Play:5s.
A Sonos Move or a pair of Sonos 1's
I would go with the Play:1s to get a true stereo pair. The extra cost of the Move goes towards features that are only helpful if you plan to use it as a portable speaker, with the exception being Bluetooth support. I haven’t heard the Move, but I ...
Vivaldi, played badly, is the worst classical music on earth
@stringreen I disagree with your statement that the Suzuki method “thwarts musicality”. First, a famous pianist (I think it was Rubinstein) said that “the music happens between the notes”. A piano is different than a violin. With a piano, you can ...
Vivaldi, played badly, is the worst classical music on earth
@flipwils11I have spent many hours practicing that piece! I have studied violin with the Suzuki method for ~8 years now, and have learned a few pieces past book 4 (as my username suggests). Did you study with the Suzuki method? How did you find ou...
Why all speakers are imperfect
@kenjit said: I’m giving you a method that gives you perfect sound with no effort or degrees needed. However, no one seems to be able to agree on what “perfect sound” is, or if it is even possible. This claim of “perfect sound” seems especially ab...
Evaluating Classical Music Albums
These are some great suggestions, thanks!
Building an AUDIOPHILE friendly PC from scratch so what is a must to consider in 2020?
Also, with certain graphics cards (Such as Nvidia cards with MSI ZeroFrozr) the fans stop when the card’s temperature is below a certain point. You should be able to program your main cpu fans to do this too. If you also have an SSD, your desktop ...

An SSD wouldn’t have the noise from a spinning disk that a HDD would have.
Idagio and Primephonic
@rcprince No problem! I would be interested to hear your thoughts between the two. Basically they both are classical streaming services with CD quality and certain unique “upgrades”. I.e., Primephonic has a large selection of Hi-Rez and claims to...
Idagio and Primephonic
First of all, I have only used Primephonic. In terms of audio quality, while most of Primephonic’s 3.5 million recordings are 16 bit/48 kHz, there are many that are 24/96 and some that are 24/192. Of course a new 21st century recording is more lik...
I love the music of the 4 seasons and this thread is not about Vivaldi ( like it tough)
When I’m stressed I often listen to the 4th movement of Bruckner’s 8th symphony; it’s like catharsis for stress. Another good piece is the 3rd movement of Shostakovich’s 1st violin concerto.
Sonos Announcement today 1/21/2020
Nearly all products that connect to the internet require security updates. If the hardware is so old that it cannot remain adequately secure, then it should be replaced. Just as no one would think of accessing their bank accounts on an iPhone 4 in...
