Floor-standing vs Book-shelf from upper line up?
Bigger is better but it would be hard to choose between the two without an audition.
Ideas on how to improve setup please
"...But the Hawks obviously have their limits..."  He says he has Staafs not Hawks.

"...See my review of the .7 at Dagogo.com..."I did just that!
New Magnepan .7s a Quickie Review
UPDATE: As Maggie owners are prone to do, I did a little tweaking of my set-up. I keep moving the panels a few inches at a time but I think I have them pretty close now. I also made some solid copper tweeter jumpers and put Gold Lion KT88 tubes in...
Flat speaker sound/preamp the culprit?/external EQ needed?
"...Rogue Audio Tempest is a integrated Amp have you tried the phono input without phono pre amp it will run a MM..."Good call, it's always worth trying, you might like one better than the other.

Your system is good but your speakers are holding you back. Better speakers would move your whole system to another level.

"...But I would hope he would not go out and buy a phono stage if he already has one... and then connect them together??! ..."It would not be the first time it was done.
What does 'cold' mean? What does 'warm' mean?
Cold- analytical, inhuman. Warm- emotional, human. To state the extreme. Cold is a PA horn speaker and warm is all sound coming from a bass speaker. In hi-fi it's not that extreme but that is the gist of it.
Hybrid Tube & SS
My personal opinion is that a tube pre with mono block amps is the top of the pile. I prefer tube amps for most things but good SS amps have their place also. A stereo amp would be my second choice. A good tube or SS integrated would be my 3rd cho...
What’s the benefit of placing speakers like this? (diagonally at the corner)
Long subject but the quickie answer is reduced reflections and better bass.

Slow down we need more information. My first question is what model amp do you have with what power tubes? Is your NAD phono pre plugged into the AUX inputs or the PHONO inputs? What cartridge?
