Most economical way to ship large speakers?
Klipsch uses Old Dominion.
Hard of hearing
I use a Sony SBS-XB13 for TV and music. It's small and I can put it right next to my ear or close to my good side. It can be plugged in or run all day on battery power. Only problem would be the sound delay, the Sony is fine but others are too del...
tube tuner or solid stat tuner
I wouldn't buy a vacuum tube tuner. Your system should get the sound you want and a SS tuner will work better longer.
Inherited a pair of JBL 4350 -- Need Advice
Holy crap! Those are highly desirable JBL loudspeakers, I would place an ad here on Audiogon.
binding posts
Also, not only do you defeat the purpose of running the speaker bi- if you don't remove them, you can damage the speakers. Only if you cross wire them.
What amp for Goldenear Reference speakers?
I have an older Marantz MK11 that was used in a home theater that could be recycled as the pre/pro for this setup.   No, don't do that but do look at some high-powered integrated amps. You said you play loud, you'll need a big boy amp.
Order of importance and budget percentages
I’d pick my loudspeaker first, then see what cable works well with it. I don’t believe in fixed percentage budgets, you buy what you need, no more no less. For example if you bought Magnepan 30s you would have tons of money left over for the othe...
Q. re Gemme Tanto Tweeter Replacements
"...their designer Robert Gaboury quite a while ago, he mentioned that several owners had replaced the tweeters with Eton 26HD3..."     That is engineering talk for; I didn't design it but I don't see a problem with it.
Speaker cable
Electrical wire/cable is most always coded in a way to identify polarity. Sometimes its color, printing, or a ridge on the sheath. I think that is all there is to it.
Reminder: how to tell current from an amp's specs?
@northman "I've repeatedly read that some speakers, notably Maggies, thrive on high current amps. " Quick answer: If you want to listen to Maggies at normal levels a couple of hundred wpc @ 8 ohms is about right. If you want to turn it up, star...
what cables are you using with your Quicksilver gear?
Well, it depends on the other gear you have. I had my Mini-Monos hooked up to Triangle Celius or Antals. Running a Cary SLP-98 pre-amp. I was using AQ Type 4 speaker cables and Kimber PBJ and Timber interconnects. A very sweet but resolving system...
Magnepan .7 Alternatives
LFT-8b or LFT-8c. This will get you up to Maggie 3.7 level for not many bucks. I gave up on my .7 Maggies, I thought my MMGs sounded better.
