Used Rega Planet or Apollo vs. affordable PC audio
Learsfool- I agree with you but one point that I would mention is that what audiophiles believe is meaningless. We represent a tiny fraction of people who have 180 degree goals versus 99.9% of consumers. Audiophiles themselves cannot support a phy...
Maggies a waste if only 3' from backwall?
Right Russ69 I agree. The 1.6 should not be discounted- it is a fantastic speaker when it is fed well and has space to breath. I can only imagine that the 1.7 is better as Magnepan does nto have a history of introducing new models unless the diffe...
Maggies a waste if only 3' from backwall?
"I do love the maggie sound, but I can't see a 1.7 competing at 5x over it's head. Help me out here, what am I missing?"What you are missing is that you don't have the space to set 3.6s/20.1s up. I highly suggest you raise this question at the Mag...
Maggies a waste if only 3' from backwall?
I would really look at the new 1.7. Placement and power is everything with these speakers. Get a nice subwoofer or two and a really good amp or two. My opinion is that your room just isn't large enough to support the larger units- and that is okay...
Firewire DACs?
KRK Ergo for $499 with Lyngdorf room perfect room correction on board. It does a lot more too. I am in love with mine.
Used Rega Planet or Apollo vs. affordable PC audio
Physical media is dying- I don't think there is any question. And I argue the point that the younger generation still wants something they can hold. I am fairly young and I don't even see hints of this! Next step is local storage in my opinion. Th...

Physical media is dead!
Room correcting subwoofer for music?
Bob- the MCS1 looks very similiar to the Ergo but I am not familiar with their room correction software. The thing about the Ergo and it's Lyngdorf system is that TacT and a few other well known "audiophile" brands have adopted it already and ther...
Room correcting subwoofer for music?
Check out the KRK Ergo. This unit incorporates the Lyngdorf "room perfect" correction system all the way up to 500hz. It uses the same DAC chip as the Logitec Transporter and is even better implemented. It accepts a coax input or firewire. It also...
airport express questions
Percisely- I understood it to take it to unpack the alac on the ae side to digital or analog. The point to all of this seems to be that if you are going to use airtunes, there is no point in using any other losslec codec other than alac. I see man...
Amp for Mirage M1 Si's??
Spikes were definitely standard and bundled from Mirage. The best sound I hav ever heard was M1si driven by a CJ EV2000. Unfortunately the Evolution 2k is out of your price range but the mf series is not. I have to admit that the class d recc makes...
Used DAC with balanced output for $500ish?
New DACMAGIC! Fully differential balanced outs. Thing is rediculously good sounding. If you can swallow your pride and buy the "lowly" cambridge unit I promise you will be thrilled.
airport express questions
I believe that Kijanki is saying that airtunes protocol utilizes apple lossless as the file type from the pc to endpoint. So any file sent via airtunes is converted to lossless and then back- aiff, aac, mp3, etc. That is how I understand it works ...
speakers for arcam integrated
Quad dynamic speakers (L/L2 series) are magical with Arcam IMO.
Best USB DAC/Preamp Under $4000 New?
If I am you I am thinking kick ass high end pre/pro that is geared towards musicality. Reclock the toslink signal with something nice with the money left over. Proceed avp2, casablanca, bel canto, halcro, etc. Everything else stays the same.
