alon circe s
Lucky you, to be contemplating this upgrade. Small room...very tricky. Check out the issue of TAS June/July 2000 (issue 124?) reviewer Art Pfeffer has Circes in his reference system - in a smallish upper story room. He's a big Alon fan.Circes foot...
Thoughts on Cary CD 303
I've had my 303 about 2 months...it replaced an Arcam Alpha 9 in my system. Detailed without fatigue, lovely mids, and in my system, very good bass. I play mainly classical, a bit of jazz, R&B & folk, but also rock...Beatles, Gabriel, Stee...
The best CD Player for the money
In the "affordable" range...my favorites so far have been the Electocompaniet, Meridian 508.24 and the Cary 303. It is possible to find the first 2 used, if you look hard. The Cary is a fave-rave of Kevin Deal at Upscale Audio. He has special pric...
Coincident Cables Experiences? Any Good?
I thought Israel Blume was going to have both new upgraded IC and speaker cables at CES??? What's the scoop on new IC??? Please explain. Thanks from happy owner of Coincident speaker cable.
I need help choosing interconnects/wires
Excellent build quality and though not cheap, way less expensive than comparable ICs from Kimber, Nordost et al. Do let them burn in for a LONG time. Cable is sytem dependent, but you have some nice stuff - DO NOT buy cheap cable or you will never...
Help Need CD player for about 2k to 3k
Cary 303 is also fine...check them out at Upscale Audio website.
Anyone heard or own the CTC Blowtorch?
At least, I think it should have arrived by now. Check out posts at AA. Brian Walsh, prez of Chicago Audio Society. Brian's a rational sorta a guy and not easily impressed.
The Beatles
Bravo, Tom.
The Beatles
PS: Those singles by Mitch Ryder & Detroit Wheels are some of greatest records ever...heard "Devil In A Blue Dress" comin' at me over the airwaves while driving down I75 on New Years, almost got a speeding ticket...so yeah, I still care. "Hey ...
The Beatles
Welcome back Schubertmaniac. We will never agree on the Beatles ('n that's alright), but I'm with ya on other 60's/Brit/garage bands you mentioned. What I remember best about 1966 (I was a freshman in high school) was how cool it was to be glued t...
New Speakers
I find Alons quite musical, if a bit fussy about the electronics they are mated with. Alons are NEUTRAL amd will not add a "character" of their own. I love my Alon Vs, especially their huge soundstage, coherence and transparency. You don't say wha...
Cary CD 301, 303 or Other? Best Uprade?
The Cary 303 is a ss player with much better detail than the standard (tubed) 301, which retains the 301's midrange warmth but adds bass/slam. A change of tubes and some tweaking can improve the sound/detail of the Cary 301 - see reviews at Audior...
Romantic HiFi Getaway Weekend?!?
There is a Sound Labs dealer that owns a bed and breakfast in New Orleans offering a FREE WEEKEND if you audition the speakers. I believe he is located in the French Quarter, plus there are plenty of interesting, scenic and/or historic sites nearb...
best amp
If you decide to go with Dunlavys, the newest Spectron is dynamite with that speaker line, as well as the slightly older Spectron Musician I, very affordable too. Get your speakers FIRST, then match your amp. Happy hunting.
CD player:Arcam 9 or Rotel 991
In my system the Arcam 9 was much more musical, with great presence, detail, soundstage and bass, the Rotel sounded a little dull to me in comparison. No high frequency harshness with my gear, very smooth in fact - Conrad Johnson SS amp, Rogue 66 ...
