My System's Weakest Link - What Say You...
C’mon brother. Be honest, what you really wanna hear is others’ oohing and ahhing and enjoy listening to them discussing so many different pieces of YOUR stuff. Exactly who is here that’s heard your system but you? No one else I’ll bet, so for som...
My best retort to those that think we listen to our stereos more than the music
The debate over a simple thought becomes a spanking from those who cannot tolerate anything other than their own rigid, moralistic, and self appointed position of chastising anyone or anything their brainwashing has taught them could offend someon...
Tinnitus sufferer: is it the speakers or the 24bits/192kHz
Amazing how many audiophiles are experts on tinnitus. Only thing missing from most of these recommendations is a chiropractor or cbd oil (Whoops, that one’s in there !)
Anyone Successfully Go from Floor Standers to Bookshelf Monitors w/ Subs?
Sometimes you have to sacrifice in life, and moving from a fine floorstanding speaker to a fine bookshelf speaker with subs in a large room is going to be a downgrade imho. I sadly have had to make that exact move due to health issues and wife’s r...
What frustrates you the most about seller’s for sale ads?
The single biggest complaint I have is sellers listing “used” gear as “mint “ condition. Happens over and over and not just here but anywhere where people buy & sell. Don’t know about you guys, but mint condition where I come from means as new...
Question for those with “Golden ears”, and a frustration! (The Loudness Wars)
It all depends on YOUR ears brother. Not only how your ears decipher sound, but what type of sound pleases you. Give you an example. If your ears simply cannot decipher and process certain frequencies as well as others, then generally (remember i ...
The Absolute Sound vs Pleasing Sound
I have always been fortunate to find that the hi-fi gear that most mimics real life sound is the equipment that I enjoy the most. I’ve never understood the desire for flat sound that so many seem to search for, other than it just gives you the fou...
Worst Concerts You Have Attended ??
Without a doubt the worst concert I ever attended was about 12 yrs ago in Atlanta at Chastain Park. This is an expensive outdoor amphitheater and the typical problem with concerts there is the audience who’d rather talk about work, tell jokes, and...
If you had access to a time machine, what concerts would you go back to see?
John McLaughlin in 1975, Marvin Gaye, Four Tops @ Cobo Hall in Detroit. The original Bob Seger band in 1968 and the great Eagles in ‘73, JGeils band in Boston 1969 and Detroit, Pink Floyd 1969 at Toledo Fieldhouse on Halloween, Allman Bros @Fillmo...
Straight out of the box doesn't work.
As far as it being nostalgic re: hi-fi equipment not working out of the box, it’s bad nostalgia if it’s preowned gear, and it’s inexcusable if it’s new and doesn’t work. Never had new tube or solid state gear not work out of the box in 54 yrs.
Single driver speakers. Are they worth considering ?
Absolutely not. Why would you even consider? There’s a really good reason that the large majority of audiphiles buy speakers with more than one driver. It’s not dumb luck or brainwashing. It’s that multidriver speakers sound better. I know there’s...
Craigslist Fraud
Craigslist is full of crooks. They try me on every single high value item I list. Mostly the same cons over and over. The solution, ONLY take cash and only present the merchandise to the actual buyer.
HOW MUCH DO NON-AUDIO FACTORS INFLUENCE YOUR AUDIO PURCHASES?
It’s never made sense to me why you can’t have audiophile sound right along with beautiful gear. No offense, but the all black, dust and fingerprint grabbing electronics so common today may sound great, but they’re an eyesore to me. Also, how can ...
Speaker recommendation $1000 or less you've had in your home
PSB Stratus Silver i’s were wonderful. Loved every minute. Find a good used pair for &4-500 and smell the sweetness and feel the thunder! Just a superior floor stander at almost no $
PSB Owners
My personal opinion as a 12+ yr PSB fan is the the Synch One FS were the finest speakers Paul Barton ever built. I only heard the Sych 2’s twice, but they had the same beautiful tone, clarity, and balance the floor standers did.
