What type of turntable should I use?
Interesting question, I have a similar situation and would also be interested in the experience of others. Being a VPI fan I have been intrigued by the fact that the low-end (Scout) and mid-line (Aries) tables from VPI no longer use a "suspension"...
Help..................... I am a little worried.
Everyone is focusing on the amp being the source of the noise, how about the preamp? You might want to first try having only the amp on (preamp and all sources off) to see if you hear the noise. If you don't hear any noise then the source of the n...
Album which you have listened to most?
That's pretty easy for me, Peter Gabriel "Plays Live". I've listened to this many, many times. Great music (if you like Peter Gabriel, that is) and a good recording.
Anybody Heard the Vandersteen 5A'S
I've got 3A Signatures (which replaced 2Ci's), and love them, so I am biased for Vandersteen. I've heard the 5A's at the local dealer and at the HE2003 Show and they do sound very nice. But it's kind of hard to make a comparison since they are not...
Very best in world music - recommendations?
One particular artist that I like is Toumani Diabate. He is from Mali and plays the Kora, a stringed instrument. Nice recording and very accesible music. A good album to start with is New Ancient Strings, not sure of the label but you can get it a...
New Damper material
You know, they keep finding new uses for Spam. This has got to be one that nobody else has tried. I bet since it is pork based (given rpl's findings) it would combine the best of pork with the best of all those other "ingredients" into one synergi...
Do you have a dedicated listening room?
I've got a small dedicated room in the basement. Smaller than I'd like but it isolates the room from my wife's "stuff". Problem is her habits are rubbing off on me and I tend to collect "stuff" in the room! I just cleaned out some of it, we'll see...
Piano that sounds like a piano
While in the local audio store the owner was playing a BIS CD of Lera Auerbach (BIS-CD-1242) which really impressed me (for what that's worth) with the naturalness of the piano. There's also some wonderful violin virtuosity demonstrated too. I hav...
Has VPI quit supporting the HW series turntable ?
VPI is the kind of company that will support their products as long as they can. As far as I know they still sell the HW-19 MK III and Mk IV new. Just recently they changed the Mk IV upgrade kit to include the Aries Black Knight platter thereby dr...
keeping collection organized?????
I made up my own in Microsoft Access and it works fairly well. I know there are commercial software programs for doing the same and they probably are more versatile than mine, but the main reason I did it is to prevent buying CD's I already have!
Effects of brading interconnect wire
There was a related thread on this a short while back, check this out: http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?cspkr&1066229292&read&keyw&zzvandersteen It relates Richard Vandersteen's thoughts on bi-wiring which would also apply t...
Which Golden Ratio??? .......Help
Audio Asylum has a room acoustics forum moderated by Rives. I would suggest searching there and/or asking the same question. The Rives web site also has a demo version of the CARA software where you can input room dimensions and see the theoretica...
what headphones work for sports and activities?
I've got the Etymotic ER-4P which are great for isolating outside noise. The downside is the cord is very microphonic, you'll hear it rubbing against your clothing when you move. Not sure I would recommend them for what you want to use them for.
What do I look for in used records?
Eldartford- Thanks for the info, I've seen Audio Fidelity records over the years but never bought/listened to one. Sounds like I'm missing something good!
What do I look for in used records?
To add a little bit more to the above posts, the first mass produced stereo recordings were available in the late 1950's. I believe they were predominately classical releases (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The collectors go primarily for the R...
