The best vinyl recording of .....Bruckner Sym 6..
The above are good choices. I believe that the best performance ever recorded was Klemperer on EMI. Hard to find on vinyl. Jochum and Haitink have better sound.
Innersound ESL amplifier - good choice?
There are 30 threads on Innersound amps indexed in Audiogon Forums search engine.
Low Frequency Rumble Question
On the CSO Reiner disks, it is the Chicago Elevated trains fondly known as the "L" going around the Loop tracks. The tracks are right behind Orchestra Hall. There are other random low frequency noises that the Ampex recorders could record but the ...
EAR preamp and phono products
I own both an EAR 834P (NOS) and a MS Phonomena. They are both very cost effective units. I'm a tube kinda guy and I like the EAR, particularly on string tones. Even adjusted for my tube bias I don't see how the Phonomena "smokes" the EAR.
Live or Recorded; A Faustian response
To Rcprince. I certainly accept that there are personal and in that sense extra-musical reasons for listening to a performance. The reference to Heidegger that Schubertmaniac casually tosses about has very specific ontological, epistemic and metap...
Live or Recorded; A Faustian response
Sorry I don't agree. I've gone to a live musical event once or twice a week for thirty plus years. There are good, bad and great performances. There are many live performances of music that I could go to but don't like the music so I don't go. The...
Live or Recorded; A Faustian response
The best term to describe it was masterful. It was one of those very select performances where the conductor was in complete service to the music and did not seem to impose an interpretation, but rather lead an orchestra of virtuosos that CARED ab...
Live or Recorded; A Faustian response
Monday night we were front and center when Vienna Philharmonic performed the Bruckner 8th conducted by Bernard Haitink. NO recording and NO system can even come close to reproducing the power, tone, detail and subtlety of that experience. The VPO ...
Anyone have honest opinion of Jolida amps?
BULLSEYE!!!I always know that I have made my point whenever the free speech Red Herring swims by in a post. I had actually though that I was exercising my freedom of speech to push back on those prefer to raising their vituperation to actual exper...
Help with a Theta Data III
I own a Data III and had a drawer problem last year. It cost me around $200 to get it fixed and Theta turned it around in about a week. Caveat, they said there is only one guy so it depends on the line in front of you. When you ship double box it o...
Speaker Dilemma: Sat/Sub or Bookshelf for Office
I use Linn Tukans in my (13x15)office placed diagonally behind me.I face my workstation in the other corner. It avoids listener fatigue and for a quick break all you need to do is turn in your chair to listen. I tend to be a low bass freak (Dunlav...
Anyone have honest opinion of Jolida amps?
Tweakerman I’m sure we all have our idea of what BUDGET means but I’m going to try this one more time. Many of my friends are music loving students, musicians and dancers for whom spending $600 on an integrated amp is a heart stopping decision. In ...
Ever hear of Mu Metal for video shielding Subs?
Try Google search "magnetic shielding" and sort through the suppliers. I doubt you want the container made from six non touching concentric mu metal layers for storing exotic lab specimans ($3600)but it sure was cute.
Anyone have honest opinion of Jolida amps?
To Glenreno:I'm not so sure about feedback. I've been involved around 40 transactions on audigon and only have three feedbacks to show. The number of feedbacks isn't a reliable proxy for the number of pieces of equipment you are familiar with.
