any suggestions on what to replace Bluesound Node 2i with
I just got my Pi2AES working. Very pleased, its kinda awesome. So I have a` Raspberry Pi with a Pi2AES hat on it. It feeds my DAC a very low noise and low jitter signal which lets it sing a bit better. Before I had a regular USB connection to the DA...
Speakers as the principle component/other components are servants
You have it backwards. The source is what matters. A poor source and your expensive speakers will faithfully reproduce it, in all its awfulness.A nice source and your cheap speakers will sound good.
El34 = KT88 = KT120
LOL. I like 6550s over all the KTs. The EL34 is a sweet tube for certain kinds of music, but not for what I play.

I should fire up a Slackware partition. It would be easier to network, certainly. ;)Been playing games, and only installed the dose on my new machine. ;)

The hardest part so far has been Win 10 networking. I had to find just the right Intel driver, and I have to trick that into giving me what I want.

I dunno. The Pi2AES guy recommends RoPieee which runs headless, meaning no interface. As I have not got my cable yet I have not set it up and figured it out. For me it should just be UPnP DLNA used with Foobar, or that is my intention anyway. I do...

The output of your PC, via Ethernet, goes to the Raspberry Pi , which uses the Pi2AES to reclock and generate clean digital streams from the bits, that came over the Ethernet port. It uses your PC and the Pi, this way, to feed your DAC this rather...

I’m going just to use RCA SPIDIF from the Pi2AES to my DAC. I should have my Cable in a day or two.I’m building a SV-EQ1616D phono equalizer for my SKY 20, from Bob’s Devices, right now, because the damn Area II is kicking my analog’s butt right n...

A network bridge may be what you are looking for. Ethernet is inherently low noise and is the best way to get bits from a computer to a DAC. I have a Pi2AES on a Raspberry Pi which produces very low levels of both noise and jitter, spanking much m...

Will the placement of casters on speaker stands degrade the performance
Nail em’ down any way you can, its why there are spikes. Any movement in your speaker, will smear the sound.I had Matrix 1s steel strapped with turnbuckles to 200lb stumps, that had cut off nails on the bottoms for a while. Never had a sound stage...

Listening to digital and analog
I use the difference. My digital after some changes, has become a bit better than my analog. So the effort to bring my analog to at least the same level, has set me on a path that should accomplish my goal. It will not be cheap. The point though is...
Holo Audio May DAC
This guy has good measuring equipment: He like the May a lot and shows you around inside. There is this one and a second.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wa3sOSRa-U0&t=703s&ab_channel=GoldenSound
How much difference does a phono preamp really make?
I’ll be able to give you some idea, in a couple of days, what a Bob’ Devices SUT, the SKY 20, sounds like through my cheap ass Musical Fidelity V-Phono, it has a good power supply, so punches slightly above its weight. The SKY 20 is about the step ...
