Tannoy Everyone?! with Leben CS600 or Pass XA25/30.5?
Leben CS600 cannot drive a Stirling. I know it because a close buddy has the Kensington and he was using CS600. It simply doesn't have the grunt. Consider that Kensington is easier to drive than Stirling because of its alnico magnet. I personally...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
Very very interesting @dover , a video with the TT playing would be lovely :-)
Best Phono Preamp Under $5k
I feel manufacturers deliberately don't play the $5k game. They price it either below $4k or above $7k. They probably know that a buyer looking for a 3-4k phono is ready to take a compromise, so give it to him. Those looking for a proper grown up ...
Best Phono Preamp Under $5k
One of the most asked question, but I am yet to find a solid contender worthy of $5k, hence pre-owned is the only choice.
Lloyd Walker has passed away.
This was his last message to me on how to configure his phonostage. RIP Sir.
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
@lewm couple of things to clarify first. 1. The 927 is owned by my cousin and there we also compared it to Nantais Reference Lenco and Dr.Feickert Firebird. There was no DD in that room. 2. I had in my room, Technics SP10Mk2, Mk3, Nantais Refere...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
And yea i have personally owned the Technics SP-10 MK2 and Mk3. Good but, please! It is not even close to 927. The Mk3 is in the league of a nicely done Lenco but with higher resolution and a drier sound. Mk2, one step below. The humble EMT 938 be...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
My first cousin who stays in the same city as me had a EMT 927, Jean Nantais Reference Lenco Mk2 and Dr.Feickert Firebird at the same time. Phonostage: EMT JPA66 Mk2 Speakers: ATC SCM 100ASL active Cartridges: EMT JSD Platinum, Phasemation PP-2...
Solid State Phono Stages
@thiefoflight the Avid Pulsare is a serious phonostage and possesses similar character as the ART9. Neutral, musical and dynamic. It can boogie and play classical without a bias. Typical grown up British kit. A little more data on other Phonostag...
Solid State Phono Stages
Having heard many of the Phonostages mentioned here and some more, my 2 cents 1. The likes of PS Audio Stellar and JC3+ are good value but they ultimately sound like a sub 5k phonostage. They touch the high end end of the game. Simaudio 610 and A...
Tannoy Stirlings on the way!
Toe-in is a necessity because these are horn guided  tweeters, they quickly lose intensity as you go off axis in the horizontal direction
Tannoy Stirlings on the way!
Technically I may not be able to explain but I can say whats going on by ears. The dispersion pattern changes. To an extent it is like toeing in-out in the vertical direction. It is meant to fire straight-direct for the most coherent presentation....
Tannoy Stirlings on the way!
@trentmemphis , please don't tilt the speakers back for elevating the soundstage. The timing and phase goes for a toss. Buy a pair of Sound Anchor speakers platform. They make studio grade stands which goes very well with Tannoys. I am a Tannoy T...
Another turntable
@pindac , I meant, after owning many idler and direct drives, I personally prefer some of the belt drives the best when it comes to high resolution playback without getting sterile. I don't hear people talking about Hartvig turntables here but it ...
Another turntable
I have owned all the good Gararrds (Loricraft etc), Lenco (PTP Solid, Jean Nantais), Technics SP-10 Mk3, Platine Verdier, all EMTs. The only few which sounded really good to my ears are these SME 30/ Micro Seiki SX-8000 Hartvig TT signatur...
