New pre-amplifier?
Normally I would say you're getting some good advice here, but how do you know we are not part of the conspiracy?
Anyone else using slugs instead of fuses? Comments on metals used and sound please
We all know that this can be dangerous, bypassing the component fuses, and, as adults, we will make our own decisions. I fully agree!  Does your landlord know what you are doing so they can make their own decision about your continued tenancy?
Replacing surround with sound bar
I switched to the Sony soundbar added the bigger sub and smaller back channel loudspeakers and have been very happy.  I was using a 2 channel with single subwoofer setup run through a Roksan analog preamp.  I took the analog audio output from the ...
Benchmark or McIntosh....
It appears some of you are not buying into the concept of multiple 21" subwoofers.  Isn't being an audiophile about taking it to extremes?
ARC VSi75SE v. MF Nu-Vista 800
Get the MF NuVista!  Why?  Because it's fits into your setup best.  Will it sound just like the ARC?  No, but so what.  It will sound great anyway.  If these are really you're only choices, then don't overthink this. Now to overthink it, I would ...
Two questions to make you mad.
All this talk about music and souls yet not a single mention of Sam & Dave!
Real or Surreal. Do you throw accuracy out the window for "better" sound?
Music does not have to be a sound.  It could be an idea in someone's mind (A STEVIE WONDER REFERENCE) or notes on a page.  Furthermore, in the right context, any sound can be music.  Even 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence is music. You should b...

If you were serious about sound you would...
@donavabdear I apologize for my earlier post.  I should have looked at your system before writing for you are clearly a serious music/equipment person.  That said, I don't think most audiophiles are looking to recreate what is heard by the artist ...

@donavabdear based upon your equipment choices I don't think you have a solid understanding of the recording process.  The key to great sounding recordings are the microphones and the talent of the engineers.  You can make great recordings without...
I Am Not an Audio Snob
If you are an audiophile you are a snob.  You believe and act as if you know more about music reproduction (and music) then the average mid-fi/pop music consumer.  Many times it's true, but not always.  Now within audiophiles circles there are als...
Mental and auditory acuity, and aging
So many people think they can somehow control the aging process and maybe they can, but at the individual level luck/genetics are bigger factors.  You can drink, smoke and not exercise and still make it to 90, or you could abstain from all vices a...
WHY CABLES MATTER!
Which do you think of more often -- the effects of cables on audio or the Roman Empire?
The greatest Pop song yet written and recorded.
Spector and Nitzche produced some truly great music, but in their personal lives they were not nice people.
