My 1st Tube Equipment Experience
@jmolsberg.  I see said the blind man! I'm not yet sure what mode the Heron is set to.  I like what I hear now, but I'm definitely going to play with the M22 and Heron gain modes today to see what happens.  Thanks to everyone for your help.  I'm ...

This preamp has no gain setting that I can find, at least on the outside.  My speakers are Tannoy 8 dcti.  And yes, I have to put my ear to the tweeter to hear the hiss.  I like the Heron paired with the M22 v2.  I’m hearing all of the detail I he...

With the Heron volume level set to 60 and the M22 gain set to Low, the sound was hollow.  With the Heron volume level set to 60 and the M22 gain set to Mid, everything opened up.  The detail is there, and the sound is so much more musical with a w...

@noromance  In general I would agree.  The M12 is a too bright; I also don't use it's DAC, BluOS module, or phono inputs.  If the Heron doesn't pan out, I'll look for something else.

@jackd. I haven’t tried that but I will.  Thanks for the suggestions.

They are supposed to be.  I'll check and let you know.
New Qobuz User Comments
I had Qobuz and Tidal.  I dropped Qobuz because Tidal has a better selection of music that I like (old school R&B and Jazz).  Tidal also has a military discount and Qobuz doesn't.  I like MQA and Qobuz Hi Res doesn't sound any better to my ears.
Streamer choices and help
Not to steal this thread, but the poster seems to have made a decision. Right you are!!  I'll let you know how my auditioning goes.
Streamer choices and help
Take a look at the Innous line of streamers.  The reviews overall are excellent.  You’ll likely find one in your price range.  I use a 2TB Zenith MKII into a Mytek Liberty DAC.  Sounds really good, although I do plan to audition it with a Qutest.
I need help trying to decide which bookshelf speakers to purchase
For a really good sound at a “moderate” price, look at Audioengine.
Worth of current system
Over the last year, cost for my new music room system  ~$22,000 Retail ~$30,000I'm retired on a fixed income, so that's it for me - except for a new DAC or integrated amp I'm saving for.
Can we finally put Reel to Reel out of its misery? Put it to rest people.
I have a Teac X10-R and about 15 (remaining) Maxell dbx 224 type II recorded reels.  At one point, I had about 40 reels but my Ampex reels deteriorated to the point where they were unplayable.  Back in the 80's, I used two Technics SL-1600 MK2 tur...

Entry level turntable for my son
+1 on used Technics 1200 or, if you can find one, the 1600.  I've had an SL-1600MKII for 35 years and it is still going strong.
Does removing anti-skating really improve sound?
I have a Technics SL-1200G with Ortofon Quintet Black cartridge. I calibrated the arm using a Feickert protractor.  At this point, I can't say that not using anti-skating improves SQ, but I can unequivocally say it stops tonearm skating at cartrid...
