When does A -->B?
I had a pair you won't care when they change, you won't notice a single thing.. IF you can you got some serious chops.. I could only envy..They are built on a very low to ZERO feed back.. BUT he (James B) voiced them with actual planars in mind. I...
Bookshelf/Small Speakers
I just picked up a pair of RS6 Infinities for 50.00 usd I had 2 new Dayton 8" reference HE drivers.. Holy moly. What a killer speaker. That speaker will better most bookshelfs at 2-4k. AT least 92% efficient.A MC225 is just thumpin' and clear as a...
A somewhat but not entirely rhetorical question:
Upgrade? Change? not the same for sure. BUT I found out a long time ago. Most of the stuff I use is more than up to the task of creating a GREAT system. I just collect a LOT more than I sell.I like HO railroading too.. I have a few brass pieces, t...
Portability of Tube Amps
LOL I’ve seen some Jim doozie tube units in old vehicles. ZERO suspension bouncing on the roads of yesteryear AND kept working..Metal tube fellas, a LOT of the real portable stuff use to use metal not glass in mobile units.. Base camp that’s diffe...
DeoxIT on cables/Jacks?
I have my own concoction. It leaves a light conductive film after it’s wiped off. Like most conductive liquids at + or - 50 degrees from ambient temperature it reduces micro arching (noise) and INCREASES the actual surface area of contact. Does th...
Thoughts on Active/Passive Speakers? Looking for pros and cons.
Only con of active is you can’t tune the sound with different amps. All other things being equal are better IMO. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>&g...
Thoughts on Active/Passive Speakers? Looking for pros and cons.
Well fiesta75, I think everyone hears you loud and clear. The problem with Active XOs from bottom to top is the cost. A GOOD active is 4-6k from bottom to top. Krell makes a GREAT active. Behringer on the other hand is good for bass duty. :-) Exac...
Listening room ISSUES
Yep that small, kitty corner, and the null space is for gear placement.. I've done it a couple of times with 15 x 20 x 8 rooms. It sure makes for less room treatment.. Decware does have a good article though.. ;-)It's about placement in that room ...
Looking for an amp that punches way about its weight and I can grow with
I just hit my 50th with Mcintosh this month. The newest piece I have is a C2500. I blew it up. Cable drop!! High pitched noise and knocked out a MC275 doing highs a VTL MB doing mids.  A month later the C2500 lost the same channel as the cable dro...
Jumper wires/ cable suggestions
OP look inside your amp YOU will be surprised at the size of the TINY little itty bitty wire.. Even 12 gage with that short of a run is a push. Get the opposite of whatever your speaker cables are terminated with. Make up a jumper out solid copper...

testing a crossover
Got me MC. I think the repair guy missed something.. If it was to heavy a load it will pop a fuse not blow up. Must have one sorry protection circuit. TWICE. I don’t think so.. It’s the amp or PC or RCA or something exclusive to THAT amp..The inpu...
What is the sound level of Your Listening Room?
If it gets too quiet it does get spooky. You can hear the little timers and equipment switching as it comes online. Amazing how loud relays cases warming up and expanding. Junior (the rabbit) calms down.. He's happy to see me.Trains going by get's...
Need some advise please on a 30 year old system
Using a Variac on a SS amp, you better know what your doing. MOST SS amps Don't like low voltage. The reason for a Variac in older gear is just as Mr Bourne said, BUT there is a big difference in the HOW old PtoP come online vs SS. There are diode...
