Upgraded Counterpoint Hybrid SA-220 Power Amps
Interesting that you're replying to a thread started 5 years ago and inactive for over a year.I still have the SA-220 I referred to in my post a year and a half ago. I've read a few comments since then from owners who had upgrades done and felt th...
Music Reference RM 200 vs. Mcintosh 275 amp
Add me to the list of those owning and loving a couple of Music Reference amps and having nothing but the best experience dealing with Roger.

What is overkill for Vandersteens?
I had a pair of 3A signatures that I vertically bi-amped with a pair of Counterpoint SA-220s. The difference vs. one amp was more than just power. Sonically there was a huge improvement in every aspect of the sound. Try it. You'll love running both.
Recommend Spk cables for Apogee centaur ?
Thank you for the suggestions. I found an 8' pair of the new style Kimber 8TC here for $260. I'll be interested to hear them in comparison to the silver.
Vandersteen 3A Signature in a small room?
I ran 3A sigs in a 9 X17 room with the speakers on the long wall. They sounded wonderful at about 18" from the rear wall. I toed them in slightly and had about 7 feet between me and the speakers.I initially rain a pair of Counterpoint SA-100s veri...
Anyone know anything about the Pathos TT
It's an outstanding amp. Class A, 35W per channel. Like all the Pathos hybrids it's sound is easily tweeked with a little tube rolling. The Classic is probably a better value these days.
Quicksilver V4's- KT88's or EL34's ?
I'm running the Tesla EL34s and they sound great. You'll notice a change in detail and bass coming from the KT88s, in my opinion.
Tube Amp Recommendations
Music Reference amps are amazing in the power they deliver while simultaneously giving great tube life. Read the reviews and discussions here and eslewhere, you'll find it's true across all of Roger's designs.I have an original RM-9. Roger went th...
Self-powered mini speakers for iPod
The audioengine is a good sounding mini monitor that out performs anything else in it's size or price range. You'll find plenty of opinions to support mine, and like everything else in audio, those who claim otherwise. The NHT M-00 is a far superio...
Tube Amp Recommendations
Pretty tuff to beat a Music Reference amp for those speakers, for most any speaker really.
Vandersteen 1B versus 1C?
Yes, but there really has never been a Vandersteen that didn't sound good. The updates to all models typically happen when Richard finds a way to make the 1 sound close to the 2, the 2 closer to the 3, etc.. His updates are significant.
Self-powered mini speakers for iPod
If your budget allows you might consider the NHT M-00.http://nhthifi.com/current/products/pchifi/m00.htmlOut of the 3 you list the Audioengine is superior to the other 2 in every way you can describe a powered speaker.
Manley Snapper mono blocks-Your opinions please
I've owned Manley gear and I don't miss it. I'm listening to a pair of Quicksilver monos and they do everything better. Both are hand built, both run El-34s. The Quickies are just better overall amps.If you're not stuck on monos then check out a M...
To biwire or not to biwire, that is the question??
Yes you should bi-wire. It sounds better to me... for an explanation go to Vandersteen.com. All his speakers are designed for bi-wire operation, and they all sound better that wayActually this is no longer true. Some of the newer crossover designs...
