Obvious Epiphany
I don’t have much leeway for moving the speakers of my main system much at all. Somewhat the same situation in my other so-so system. Just easier to move the listening position. I have used balance on the NAD integrated in my mid-fi system. I us...
Robert Plant
@cycles2 said: "As to Plant being the greatest Rock & Roll singer, I’ve seen him in Led Zepp several time in S, Florida in the late 60’s and 70’s in small and large venues and he’s nowhere close to Freddie Mercury, Roger Daltry, Rod Stewart o...
Why "bookshelf" sspeakers?
There are several points I don't understand: 1. "Bigger floor-mounted boxes may have coloration from cabinet vibrations and resonance which can impact the coherence and detail of the midband." It seems to me that any poorly designed cabinet can ...
Why "bookshelf" sspeakers?
Thanks for all the replies. A couple of thoughts: I know the term "bookshelf" my be antiquated or inaccurate but looking around I do see several high end makers that call their own "small" speakers "bookshelf speakers" and some claim they will wo...

It was the 80s. It was Utah. What can I say?

@au_lait  I think Big Log is one of, if not THE best Plant solo song of all. Takes me back to my college days while courting my first and current wife. @re-lar-kvothe I was also devastated. I was a sophomore or junior in high school in the footba...

A lot of the available footage and recorded stuff from Zeppelin's live stuff is sloppy. Often off tempo too. But like the "Minnesota Blues" (mess of the blues) medley on this BBC album, even amongst the sloppy stuff there are jewels to be found. ...

@tomic601 Thanks. Merry Christmas.

When I listen to Zep these days I tend to listen to the less popular stuff. Stuff that typically didn't get radio time back in the day. I still like their hits but I think their genius is seen best in the deeper cuts.
New Band: Mac Saturn
Report on the show: Mac Saturn is the real deal. The place was already packed tight for The Struts by the time we arrived which was well before Mac Saturn came out. Pretty much standing room only. But most of the audience seemed to know Mac Satur...
New Band: Mac Saturn
I agree. None of their current songs sounds like a 'hit' to me (whatever that means these days). But I'm a sucker for just about any blues based riffs and a good live show so we'll see. I see them tonight. I'll check out Neal Francis.
Integrating speakers into contemporary decor - can WAF ever be overcome?
Here is my situation and how we worked it out: 100 year old house. 10’ ceilings. Living room is fairly formal. Crown molding. Formal looking fireplace. Oriental rug. Eclectic furniture. Mostly traditional but some contemporary. Nothing particular...
When are speakers considered Hi-Fi and not Mid-Fi???
I've been away from Audiogon for a while. Nothing has changed. Lots of good common sense advice. Lots of people with 'x' many years of experience in complete and bitter disagreement about the exact same things in every post here with other people...
Stupid Volume Question
Never mind. My memory is worse than I thought. The volume setting on Apple Remote was always set on max and then controlled on the pre-amp via the physical remote. It is with an older Sonos Connect into the pre-amp that the volume in Sonos is 'fi...
Jimmy Page, It's time to call your lawyers?
I get tired of hearing about Led Zep's thievery. Faulkner once said, “Immature artists copy, great artists steal.” Many other famous folks have said similar things. Led Zep stole the way great artists do. Then they got caught. And they paid for i...
