Purchased a used Shure V15 Type IV cartridge, looking for stylus
I use a Shure V-15 III that I bought nearly 50 years ago. For the last eight years I have equipped it with JICO SAS styli (two in that time period) and have been very pleased with them. It is mounted into an SME 3009 II. The V-15 III needs more of...

Downward firing speaker port and domestic issues
Decoupling your loudspeakers from the floor will help both sound transmission and the sound of your loudspeakers, although you may still need to moderate your volume when your neighbor is home. I recommend the Auralex iso platforms from personal e...
What I really hate about some music
Hi, I hope these notes are helpful: RE; #1, that "catchy phrase" is called a "hook" and it's considered essential to pop music and some Jazz. Pop music is not really expected to heard by an audiophile studiously listening to an exalted system, bu...
Best Examples Of Cymbal Decays On A Recording
Jim Brock is well known in recording circles for his percussion work, and his 1985 album, Pasajes may offer some of what you want. I know there is one brief cut late on side one that is just cymbals. I was the engineer and mixer, and I can say tha...
Build-up on stylus - any new cures?
Thank you!
Build-up on stylus - any new cures?
Thanks! I have brushes, magic erasers, and various things. I read that the SAS styli just scoop up stuff and the tip now looks like it is inside a micro snow ball with the just the very tip of the diamond protruding. An ultrasonic jewelry cleaner ...
Build-up on stylus - any new cures?
Any thoughts on ultrasonic cleaners? My wife has one suitable for jewelry. There are also those Flux HiFi Sonic devices that purport to employ some not-so-ultra frequencies.
Build-up on stylus - any new cures?
Thanks, I'll add LP9 to my growing collection of stylus cleaning stuff, I appreciate it.As to what I use for cleaning, it's the humble Spin-Clean. I always use the prescribed amount of surfactant, not washing a record until it seems well distribut...
Build-up on stylus - any new cures?
Thanks, but no, it is clearly a buildup of some sort. The 2014 thread about this noted that vinyl shed from records looks like this and consists of short rods in shape. My listening tastes are not very mainstream. Some of the pressings I listen to...
Build-up on stylus - any new cures?
OK, for everyone that offered practical ideas for a solution, thank you! I appreciate that. My problem is somewhere in the mechanical-chemical range and pragmatic ideas are welcome. For the various people that assumed that I don't clean my records,...
Build-up on stylus - any new cures?
Thanks, I actually have a bottle of that exact stuff (at least it was 91% a couple of years ago, and I have used it regularly. Whatever is stuck on their seems impervious to alcohol, though, so I'm exploring other options. I appreciate your response.
Build-up on stylus - any new cures?
OK, thanks. I just ordered the Audio-Technica AT-617a so that should do the trick.
Diffuser or absorber behind listening position....and is it worth doing??
As an option to consider, Jeff Hedback is a designer who has created several hundred studios and also a large number of high end personal listening space designs. I've used several of his studio designs myself. Jeff basically works from his home, ...
