Equalizer in a Hi Fi system
@mahgister I actually love your idea of tuning the speakers to the room.  Any good designer knows that the low end is EXTREMELY room dependent, and not every speaker is perfect in every room, or in every position of any room.  Your tuning-straws a...
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system
An honest question to @mijostyn :   You are pushing the superiority of Digital EQ...  So what model Digital EQ would you recommend?  I mean one that has knobs or sliders that I can enjoy adjusting easily and 'on-the-fly'.  The only one I can thin...
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system
@tattooedtrackman Please report back to us your impressions of the Mac MQ112!  It appears to have finer intervals down low, better for room corrections, but sacrificing control up high.  I share @tlcocks concern about the leap from 3k to 10k, and ...
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system
@tlcocks I finally read your earlier posts, and info on your PEQ-1, and it really makes me believe I had a lemon unit.  Mine was a very early production unit, and I had to send it back initially for a couple wiring errors.  Then months later an op...
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system
It does not matter how well you think you can do it analog. I can and do do it much better digitally. You might consider trying it sometime. @mijostyn Sheesh... your condescension is deafening! I’ve had a home recording studio for 25 years, and...
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system
Analog Equalization causes havoc with image generation. This is why serious audiophiles steered away from toner controls and EQ in the past. @mijostyn    This is the kind of negative energy towards EQ that I’ve been railing against for years. B...
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system
I love EQ, and have several studio eqs, but I really only keep one on the output of my phono preamp, for eq'ing vinyl playback. My eq of choice right now is the Vintage Audio M3D Skyline.  It's a 6 band EQ with very wiiiide bands for minimal phase...
Integrated Amp ideas for a very young audiophile
Never too young..... I was only about 6 or 7 when I learned from my Dad how to create echo and feedback on his Reel-to-Reel tape deck.  It was hours of fun playing with echo, and re-threading the tape machine to playback music.  50 years later, I'...
Real or Surreal. Do you throw accuracy out the window for "better" sound?
brev  How can a "metallic edge' to a cymbal hit take you out of a song?  I have yet to hear an audio system that ever comes close to the true metallic edge of live cymbals!  I know.... I own over 20 cymbals.  There's simply no way a 1" tweeter can...
Which to keep! Pick one of these two soeakers
@cabkab Hey, at least I like your response! For myself, I’ve had for over 20 years now, 3 pairs of speakers that I switch between every ~6 months. They each sound VERY different from each other, and I appreciate the qualities of each, and acknow...

I have a chicken and a fish.  Which one should I kill for dinner?
They know we will pay anything they can think of
I really don’t get the premise of the OP’s scenario. Do you mean to suggest that you went to an audio show, and the Rep sized you up, and made up a price on the spot?? Well aren’t YOU special!  What about their website and printed brochures that m...
What's the point of reviewing?
Listening to music is a pointless endeavor... but it gives us pleasure.   I enjoy reading and learning about gear... so shoot me.
Steve Guttenberg finally reviews the Eminent Technology LFT-8b loudspeaker.
I've heard the ET's at a few shows, and he's had several chairs in a single file line between the speakers, all perfectly in the sweet spot.  This tells me everything i need to know.... they have a super narrow sweet spot.  They sound amazing ther...
Speakers sounding dull? MUST READ! The truth about speaker design!
I don't come here often... and this discussion is why!
