In Search of a Passive Subwoofer Amplifier
Behringer a500:http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/A500.aspxI've used two of these to power the sub modules of my Zu Definition 2's for the last few years and they've been perfect. Real transformers, about 500 watts into mono, very little heat, g...
Zu Druid MK IVs vs. Essences
docks - your claims on the druid response are equivalent to removing the tube port in a 'conventional' speaker, measuring it, then mocking the speaker's response.Zu complained to soundstage about those measurements BEFORE they were performed, or a...
Zu Soul Superfly
45 SET plays pretty loudly on my Def. 2's, no congestion at 'normal loud' levels. Can't play house parties. My RWA 70.2s kick absolute tail on them, Class D ain't all the same. Their 50 watts or so into 6 ohms (which the Defs are) + active bass pow...
Zu Soul Superfly
Tim, if you used the Druids on that floor without an intermediary 'platform', there is no way the gap would be right. IMO, Zu should not have included carpet spikes with those speakers, instead recommending a plate to be spiked to the floor, with ...
High Efficiency Speakers Your top 3 or more
haha, tastes differ so much. I have the Zu Def. 2s and wouldn't trade them for anything on the basis of sound quality. On the other hand, I have a friend with a dearer system than mine based on big Coincidents which I simply can't stand. The bass ...
Amp for below 105 Hz
I have a Crown K-2 that outperformed everything else I've tried in my Zu Definitions. They have 4 - 10"ers per side though.
SET friendly speakers w/ slam?
My Zu Def. II subs are run up to 120 hz and they slam, oh baby do they slam. The Def. Pros I had didn't, I could only run the subs up to 65 hz. SET friendly? Yep, completely. However, the SET amp isn't responsible for the slammage. I wouldn't expe...
Novice ears or unrealistic expectations?
I'm no engineer but I know Class D has nothing to do with the power supply. There are lots of Class D amps with linear or even battery supplies.See Wikipedia for a proper explanation.
Novice ears or unrealistic expectations?
Blasphemous suggestion - would it be possible to put the speakers on casters so that you can roll them out away from the walls when seriously listening? You could roll them right back away when you're done. A few small pieces of tape could indicat...
Anyone compare Devore and Harbeth speakers?
I've heard Super 8s with Naim stuff at that Seattle dealer twice. The first time was with the entry-level stuff and I thought the sound was delightful. The second time was the Big Naim rig playing vinyl and it was really outstanding.A friend has t...
Tyler/Salk sensible alternatives to Gallos?
I owned the Gallos and don't particularly care for them. They're great at audiophile "special effects" but their instrumental tone through the midrange is opaque at best. Depending on the room, all that tweeter dispersion could be an issue too. Cu...
Modified DCM TFE200's......World Reference Now
What's the point of "sharing" a great discovery if you're not willing to truly share it?Alas, I feel this exercise is as much a waste of time as everything else I've ever seen from you HFSG.
Modified DCM TFE200's......World Reference Now
I hope they're your favorite speakers for the rest of your life. They're worth about $15 now.
Zu Druids low powered tube amp or high powered SS?
I'm always in favor of trying as many combinations as possible, especially if "another amp purchase is out of the question". That does really narrow the options. I suppose if none of your amps work well you will need to revisit that qualification ...
Zu Druids low powered tube amp or high powered SS?
Bb - What is lacking and what direction do you want to push them? I wouldn't think 300B GENERALLY would be the best choice, as they are voiced toward the warmer side which the Druids are as well.
