Cartridge recommendation please...
I can confirm the Soundsmith Otello as a great choice for your table with a caveat. I had to add weight to the counterweight to get a good static VTF. Pretty easy to do. KAB and Technics both make thread on auxiliary counterweights. Once properly ...
Cartridge Opinions - Sorry
Here is my suggestion for the OP. https://www.sound-smith.com/cartridges/fixed-coil/carmen-mk-iiI use the Zephyr MIMC☆ daily.  I LOVE it. Lately I have been on a vintage table kick. Bought some used carts too. I scored a high output VPI Zephyr use...
Can Room Correction Be Added to an Existing DAC?
I had the DSpeaker X4. Good stuff. Easy to use. Built in dac, but has digital out as well. Worth a look, but $$.
Favorite song to demo or test drive speakers?
So many great choices here. I'll add one.Boz Scaggs- "Thanks to you" from "Dig". Preferably on vinyl😎😎
Lower end Soundsmith cartridges vs others in same price range?
I have a new Otello, a new (6 month) Zephyr MIMC☆. I also have recently purchased a VPI Zephyr and an older MIMC. I have been re-capping/refurbishing older DD tables. On an old Denon DP-51f, the Otello has potent bass. Maybe a bit too much. A soli...
New TT for ~$1500
Two directions here. Get an old Denon DD table. Spend ~$400. This will give you a taste of DD. And if you sell it later you won't lose hardly a dime. I recommend spending a bit more on the cartridge.  The Soundsmith Otello is a steal at $399. Some...
Soundsmith - Thank you to everyone.
Peter, I can't find the words to express the joy you've brought into my life. I was easily in the digital audiophile camp. Some CDs, but hundreds of files. I still maintained a very modest vinyl rig, but mostly it sat idle. I realized that vinyl h...
Another streaming newbie
My advice. You are playing vinyl now. Stick with it. I use my Raspberry Pi streamer with Qobuz to discover new music I want on vinyl. Occasionally I listen critically to Qobuz, but really vinyl holds my attention the most. My suggestion. Pick up a...
My Demo results: I feel like I'm at a frustrating block in my speaker journey
STOP!!!!Do NOT spend any money on gear yet. You are showing us all that you are an audiophile in pursuit of great sound. You will have marginal success at best with your current layout. It just won't happen. The speakers will need to be brought ou...
Reasonable moving coil cartridge
My advice. Get the Soundsmith Otello. This guy knows how to build a cartridge! You get US made hand built for mass market price! If you want another high value cartridge and don't care about US made, get the AT740ML or AT750SH. I can testify that a...
Is it all worth it?
To me, playing records is absolutely worth it. I just get more "zen" spinning vinyl. I know it can be a PITA, but MY GOD, when it's good, it's GREAT! I still play digital, and really enjoy it.  But I'm typing this while listening to Malia on Qobuz...
Sales or clearances happening now
Just had to order the PS Audio Stellar Phono. Too good a deal to pass up. 20% off. Then they gave me $500 for my old Phonomena that might sell for $200 if I’m lucky. $1499 for this phono pre is an astounding deal. It is fantastic! Fremer didn’t li...
Speaker cable recommendations in my budget
I have owned basic zip cord, AQ type 4 , GBC, and GLC. Morrow Audio too. Trust me. I am a solid unabashed +4 for the AudioEnvy cables. Heard his demo. Liked it. Bought speaker cables to try. Fell IN LOVE with the sounds of vibes,  triangles, etc. ...
Should I buy a VPI SCOUTMASTER. I OWN 25 RECORDS.
Listen. Just buy the VPI. I bought a lesser model for more, and am happy. The unipivots have a learning curve, for sure, but the curve applies to any arm in the future, so good education there. No, wait....send me the info on this table so I can b...
best phono stage under 10k
I suggest before replacing anything, you try these steps first.https://www.psaudio.com/ps_how/how-to-find-and-fix-hum/
