I am surprised that you found the 3035 forward and edgy... are you sure that the set you tried were completely broken in? I have a set, and that is not how I would describe their sound in my system... they are very neutral and have excellent sound...

I have tried alot of cables... while I don't like all the hype around Nordost cables, their interconnects are hard to beat. The Red Dawn is an excellent cable for the price. The Valhalla is about the best you can buy... but the price is ridiculous...
