Isolation Devices for Digital
I wrestle with devices that dampen versus those that drain such as cones. With speakers, I find that tight coupling to the floor does much better than dampers. With equipment such as CD players I've had mixed results. Definitely had more success w...
Cambridge Audio 840C
Darrens, it all matters *g*Kiwi, there is a post here somewhere where I did compare the CA 840c against the GNSC modded Wadia 830. The Wadia came out on top with better dimension, depth and definition in voices and instruments -- but we're talking...
SB3 using external DAC on Cambridge Audio 840C?
Yup, did exactly that and it worked great -- the 840c DAC is a big improvement over the DAC in the SB3.
Attn Vinyl lovers - what CD Player do you use?
Used GNSC modded Wadia 830 for a long time - loved it. Now using an Oracle CD-1000 transport into a Maui-modded Tact 2.0s.
Marantz 8001SA vs. Cambridge 840C
If you're really looking for the best CDP under $1500, then the 840c is a must listen. IMHO, it will give you features (digital in/out, upsampling, balanced out), detail and dynamics that you just don't find much in this price range. Of course, yo...
Why use CD Transport instead of computer source
I own an SB3 with a linear PS and use it via its digital out. I also have have had the opportunity to compare it to a stock Transporter also just using digital out in my system. While I felt the Transporter did sound better (more relaxed and refin...
Why use CD Transport instead of computer source
Ncarv... I echo Tonyptony. Streaming lossy internet radio is good, FLAC lossless is far better, but still not quite the same as sourced from my CD transport. My comparisons were with FLAC lossless copies ripped from the same CD using EAC and volum...
Why use CD Transport instead of computer source
Interesting question that I've been pondering for a year... I have two Squeezeboxes and have tried a Transporter in my system. But, none have sounded quite as good as CD players/transports to me in my system and I've tried 3 of those (Wadia 830 w/...
Personal CD player evolution
1) a Denon - can't remember the model #2) ARC CD-13) Wadia 830 with GNSC Ref mods (loved this one but let it go because wanted a transport with digital outs to feed my Tact 2.0s preamp)4) Cambridge Audio 840c 5) Oracle CD-1000 transportI fully int...
DAC or new player ?
Here's a suggestion... the CA 840c can operate as either a DAC or CDP. Get one on 30 day eval and compare standalone versus as a DAC to your Sony. Of course, the DAC won't help the SACD output of your Sony so you need to decide how important SACD ...
Get a better turntable or better phono preamp?
I'd agree on the phono pre as well, but you don't mention what cartridge you're using. Can the Technics take different cartridges? If so, depending upon what you're using and the age of it, a new cartridge may also be worth considering.
Stand out phono stages
I went down this path awhile ago and came upon the EE Minimax Phono which I think is excellent and worth checking out.
K&K phono stage
I have listened to it and it does sound wonderful. I gave it serious consideration but when it came down to it, didn't trust myself with a soldering iron. Of course, I think you can get Kevin to build it for you at an additional cost.I ended up go...
CD Players with digital "in" capabilities
Cambridge Audio 840c. Two digital inputs plus a digital out.
Cambridge 840C, YES it is as good as the reviews
I also saw Harley's response... here's the thing - this guy is Mr. Audio Biz... when he makes a statement like that, I either want to listen to one immediately (which I have) or question his credibility (which many have done) because that was quit...
