Focus Audio 688's
Hi Phil, Yep rarely get over here but noticed the all to rarely seen Focus Audio post.I've never actually heard the other FS speakers. I was just going by what I read at FA's website, from a brief conversation from someone at FA and Tony in Florid...
Focus Audio 688's
I have mine in a 13x12x8 foot room. The speaker positioned along the long wall. I pull them out from the wall to listen since my "dedication listning room" also doubles as my bedroom :)About 32" from the back wall and 24" from the sidewall. This p...
Focus Audio 688's
Yes Tony is the one listed in Florida. Visited him last Summer in Central Florida. Wonderful gentleman! Rubinken hears the speakers the exact way that I do. 3D sound, works great with all music, makes virtually any recording listenable regardless ...
The best speaker you ever heard?
Very true. Don't forget they are always produced in small numbers by obscure manufacturers or by reclusive audio geniuses who are convinced everyone else has it wrong. They also "blow away" anything you attempt to compare it to. Same for amps ;)
Where do you draw the line???
sound better then $13000 speakers as a general rule. Point is here were some beautifully finished speakers that looked very impressive. Mahogany finish with 11 drivers in each cabinet. The crossover was so bad that you could actually tell which dr...
Where do you draw the line???
Actually my comments were directed toward the fact that a 30k system must sound better then a 20k system or the owner of the 30k system screwed up. Audio equipment is not built to a price point to get the maximum amount of sound for the $$$. If on...
sonus faber grand pianos vs vienna acoustic mozart
While shopping for bookshelf speakers I had a chance to listen to Vienna Acoustic Haydn, Bach, Beethoven and the Mozart. I also listened to the SF Concertino, Concerto and Grand Piano.I felt the Grand Paino Home and Beethoven were a clear step abo...
Review: Yamaha CR-840 Vintage AM/FM Receiver Amplifier
Oh yea! Scraped and saved until I could afford the Yamaha CR2020. Paid $850 in 1978 dollars! Not easy when you only made about $110 a week as I remember.Real Walnut cabinet (think the 40 series had simulated walnut), MM and MC phono stage, variabl...
Where do you draw the line???
Late to the party but....Sad because there seem to be so many 'educated audiophiles' who seem to equate higher performance with higher costs. Pure idiocy. Speaking from over 30 years of experience. I find it unbelievable that many seem to assume t...
Review: Sim Audio Moon i 3 Amplifier
Upper midfi?? Never heard the amp myself. However one of the reviewers at soundstage is using the I3 as his reference amp. Must have something above midfi sound going for it.
Review: Axiom Loudspeakers M-80ti Speaker
I believe these retail for $1100 directly thru Axiom. While not having heard them my understanding is that for the price you would have a difficult time finding a better speaker. Lots of very satified customers with reviews on audioreview.com.
Norh Speakers from Thailand: High-end or Hype??
I own some Aperion 502's and bought my Teenage daughter some PSB alpha Minis. Both are excellent speakers especially for the money. I also would love to see the above mentioned speakers in a show down and throw in some of those 'best value' speake...
