What is a "SHOTGUN" speaker cable??
I believe the term 'shotgun' refers to the cross-section resembling a 'double barrel shotgun.' That means two separate runs; one end of both cables terminate to a single point(amp end), the other terminated to connect in common bi-wire configuration.
Norah Jones?
I have to agree with most of the sentiment here and say that Jones hasn't been very dynamic or emotionally involved in her recorded performances. Kind of like a female Perry Como, only not as exciting...Do as Mthieme says and get a copy of Ava Cas...
Which amp ? ...
Wow. I'm sorry our recommendations didn't work out so well. I too have sampled a number of different combinations of gear over the years, and oddly arrived at quite a collection of BAT components that satisfy my needs (however different they are f...
Music starts early
Right on the money, Lugnut. Tape 'print through' was and still is a problem for any magnetic tape storage media. Makes you wonder if remasters from old analog tape could get any better than the fresh pressings...
Sony DVP-S9000ES redbook playback
I agree with Philo and Kurt above. I've had to live with the 9000 I snatched from my theater system for the last couple weeks while my primary 2 channel machine is being upgraded (BAT D5.) IMO, the Sony is sterile, lifeless and cold. Detailed? Yes...
ARC Reference 2 MkII Preamp white noise levels
I'm not too certain about any plug in gadgets to correct the problem. I wouldn't doubt you could Google up some sort of pad to plug in between your pre & amp.I assume you are using the balanced outputs on the ARC? The specs state that the outp...
ARC Reference 2 MkII Preamp white noise levels
I doubt gain differences are the problem. While muted, the difference in the two pre's gain capabilities shouldn't matter. If the noise level isn't at or near zero when the pre is muted, then it sounds like it could be an impedance mismatch...The t...
Is my setup mid-fi or hi-fi?
Would it make any difference to you how I or anyone else here would categorize your gear? It shouldn't. There are no industry standards on which gear falls into which category. "One man's trash is another man's treasure."I think your weakest link ...
Delores Keane fans?
I'd never heard of her until I came across this thread. Being keen (pun intended) on female vocals, I took a listen to some snippets over at Amazon. Not bad! I'll have to pick up some of her work. There seem to be quite a few albums to choose from...
what is a ground loop?
It's one of those things the neighbor's dog leaves on your lawn...
3-D Movie Is A Metaphor for Non-Audiophiles
I think 'understand' meant just that. There is something to understand, at least for a certain segment of non-audiophile types.Music to many of them is a passing distraction on which they have never focused their full attention. I have had a numbe...
3-D Movie Is A Metaphor for Non-Audiophiles
A breathy, ethereal female vocal (McKennitt, Cassidy, etc.) in a darkened room. Plop 'em down in the sweet spot and let er rip. It's magic. Works every time. Err, at least until they learn the price of admission...Maybe I'll try the kick to the cr...
Regrets, I've had a few...
Wow. Haven't heard anything about the band 'Be Bop Deluxe' in many moons! Now that you mention it, I wouldn't mind recovering my copy of 'Axe Victim.'I'd really like to have all my old original Beatles albums back. That and a list of all the stuff...
Blue Note Jazz Recordings
Whilst browsing through a few random threads this weekend, I learned of a new source that is really going to help save me some money. Interestingly, they just so happen to have a number of the RVG Collector series available. How could you go wrong...
Wife approval factor?
Maybe that's why my wife is so tolerant?I now realize that every closet in my house has ever-so-gradually filled to capacity with shoes, purses, clothes and girlie stuff! It was so subtle that it took reading your post for me to realize it!Kidding...
