Any bad experience with wilson audio sasha w/p?
Bo1972 sounds like a dealer I know who was a Wilson loyalist until he spent a day listening to a customer's system that used a brand that is known for making music. His comment to me: "How could I have missed so much music for that many years?"
What component is responsible for dynamics ?
Unless one is using very dynamic speakers, which as you describe, you are not, different speakers are the way to increase dynamics. Amps, preamps, phono stages, cartridges can vary brand to brand and model to model in dynamics, so you can enhance ...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
Mjknight, 9 posts above, you have far better taste than most.
Have cables become somewhat of a snake-oil topic.
"Have cables become somewhat of a snake-oil topic."Nearly entirely, yes. Almost all of them talk about science but nearly none of them have any true science on their sites or in their papers. Rather, most of the supposed "technical talk" violates ...
LAMM2.1 with Tannoy Westminster Royal SE Speakers
Did you find them producing the deepest bass as well as more powerful amps? Did you try anything with a lot more power, and if so, did you find that the Lamm went as low?
When a Reviewer "likes" something
The original post asks about what it means when a reviewer likes something and I much earlier in the thread wrote a sad but true comment about it meaning little. It was later pointed out that it is hard to find dealers who have the equipment to dem...
Tannoy Westminster amp matching question.
To agree with Atma-Sphere, a high damping factor amp is not necessarily the way to go with the Westminster Royal SE.If you want to get the full bass potential of this speaker you do need the right amp. And with such a glorious, detailed, natural, ...
LAMM2.1 with Tannoy Westminster Royal SE Speakers
I am sure they will drive them well and make them go plenty loud. However, my concern, without trying them, is that they might not control that woofer to get the last octave and to really play the bass with dynamics and tightness. This has been my...
Speaker Choice
"Thiels nail everything - I simply cant fault them - except in one area - a bit dry, thin and slightly uninvolving although to some extent that's fixed by valve source gear."Isn't this a bit like saying "On paper Thiels nail everything but they do...
Parallel? How do you set the VTA?
I always have a business card and credit card, I pull one out and run it vertical, cue down on the inner grooves, look which letter aligns to top of armtube near the headshell, do same at outer grooves, easy way to measure.
Magico S5 vs Tannoy Westminster Royal SE
They are respectable in sound, nice natural sound without glaring seams. Yes, I think they are way too high priced for the performance, but no doubt they are a real pain to build and small volume. Boutique. If the current fad brands at the high en...
Why not horns?
"05-22-10: ShadorneThe very best horn designs run at about 3% THD when played loud and this will distortion is audible and in treble."Now where did that come from? The best horns are a lot lower than that figure. Please document where "the best ho...

Charles, could not agree more on your general point. And, though I don't own Rockports, and have several speakers I like a lot, I won't be buying Rockports in the near future, I agree with you excellent rating of them. Nice, low distortion sound, g...
When a Reviewer "likes" something
As an insider I can tell you it more often means nothing at all when a product is raved. But sometimes some reviewers are right on target. The problem is that you have absolutely no way of knowing which of the above is true for any given review. L...

How do you edit your own posts? I made a few typos and have a few missing words in my post above. My corrections to the above post are in CAPS. It should say: "I am used to the big, new, heavily reviewed, heavily advertised, "state of the art" (as ...
