New Analog system. where to start?
I have no problem buying quality pre-owned equipment from sellers on audiogon that have a solid history. My current digital set-up is a Plinius SA250MKIII amp and M16 pre, cd player is a Stan Warren modified Pioneer Elite PD93, my speaker are the a...
Toshiba 9200 or Sone 9000 for DVD HT
Video is about equal....both are great. Do you prefer SACD or DVD-Audio? On CD playback I think the 9200 wins out. You can find the 9200 at extremely attractive prices is you look around too. You will not be disappointed with either. BTW....IMHO t...
Best DVD for video and theater sound for 2000
Check out EAD's TheaterVision P. Should be able to find one in the $1600 range. Will perform as well or better than ANY DVD player on the market.
Lexicon MC-1/EAD TM 8 Signature/Anthem AVM20?
Lthkeepr is correct with his recommendations. The EAD is State-of-the ART!!!! It is expensive but worth it. Among his others I would go with the Aragon. Price vs. Performance it is unreal.
5 channel amp for Paradigm Studio 100's
OK, I've said it many times before but if you want the best 5 channel amp in this price range (under$1K) then the EAD PM500 is by far the way to go. I don't think you would ever need to upgrade your amp again. The EAD is SERIOUS gear. They are rar...
Marantz MA700 or Acurus A200
I'd go with the acurus. The Marantz does offer nice flexiblity but the acurus is a better, more reliable performer.
GamuT D-200 or Plinius SA 250: What to use?
The Plinius SA-250MKIII is the best amp I have ever used. I would keep it all Plinius regardless of the rest of your equipment, but like Gregm mentioned.....it all individual tastes (go for the Plinius).
Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers/Hosty
Kelton. Roger Cline used to be the front man for the group The Refreshments. He is a great live performer. I have seen him several times and even recorded one of his shows on a Digital8 recorder. If you like him, you should also check out Slobberb...
Best 5 channel amp under 4k
You can usually find a pristine, pre-owned EAD PowerMaster 2000 for well within your price range. You won't find many 2-CHANNEL amps that will sound better than the PM2000 and the PM2000 has the 5 channels you are looking for. The others mentioned...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
KARTS are UNREAL. Thanks is almost too much abuse for me for any length of time though (depending on the techincality of the track). But talk about a rush!! Right on Ed!!
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Ed_sawyer....you can get that performance out of a CRX for under $10K? I bought my car new in 2000 and my price was inflated b/c of the new car price. Solid performance isn't too hard to get out of these cars thats for sure. New or used. :)
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Sean....the Kona is a blast to drive. They recently opened up a road course in Council Bluffs, IA and you couldn't slap the grin off my face after a dozen laps. Next I have to put some money into the sound system.....and another set of tires. :)
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
A Ford Focus Kona Edition modified for SCCA racing. can nab 1.0 on the skidpan and goes 0-60 in under 6.5 seconds seconds. Oh yeah.....28mpg.......all for about $17K. SWEET.
What is the best amp setup for Magnepan 3.6 ?
PLINIUS....SA100MKIII. Almost unbeatable as far as solid state goes. They can be had for around $1800-2200 in mint condition.
A dedicated HT speaker used under 2,000.00/pair
I'll tell you what greg, the studio 100 (as well as most other Paradigms) do need a while to break in and sound their best. Possibly the set up you listened to wasn't broken-in or set up right, who knows. For the longest time I was a HUGE Legacy f...
