Any Levinson 390s Level Players, But At Less Cost?
The ML 390s was nice w/ the built-in digital preamp, but I agree it was too expensive. Have you looked at the AR CD3?
Question for DIY people: Butcher block shelving??
Go and buy a sheet of high-ply birtch or oak (or any other good looking one-sided plywood) and make your self retangular boxes a little wider and longer than your componets and about 2-4" high. Fill it with play sand and place a final board on top...
Current and Former Transparent Audio owners
I used to run all Transparent Music wave plus IC's and super SC, I moved to all XLO bottom of the barrel stuff after running a frequency response sweep when one day playing with my system. The Transparent cable seemed (pretty obvious really) to ch...
Your local library
Stop giving all the great secrets away. If people start going to libraries, then they might start reading. God only knows how bad a little education is. SHHHHHHHHHH!Sarcasm aside, some of the better libraries to find good vinyl (and hardy used) ar...
What driver does Linn use in the Sizmik subwoofer?
How much are they asking? I know that when I was looking around to build a subwoofer, the really good drivers were $200+. At least, the ones that had enough xmax and fs for the job I was going to do.
Infinity Intermezzo 4.1T Towers.
I've had them for a year now and I still love them. Last summer I auditioned Eggleson's Rosa, B&W 803, and some VR-4's. I also ordered a pair of the 4.1t's and ended up keeping them. If you want BASS then these are not for you. In my room they...
nautilus 801 bass accuracy
How big is your room? Have you played around with set-up? Perhaps you have the speakers to close to the back wall? The sound you get from a speakers is always the reaction and relationship of the room with the speakers. If at all pull those mother...
Review: Carver ZR1600 Amplifier
Can I get it with those $400 wood knobs?
Another wattage question.
That is fine as long as you are reasonable with the volume.
Why no "speaker B" connection on many SS power amp
Simple preconception: Or maybe post-conceptual elitism. Um this is probably on of those questions someone might not want to touch with a twenty-foot pole. But bear-in-mind (get it) that some will offer the convenience, but only in a form consistin...
I auditioned SACD today
Just a few problems that vinyl still has: 1) Surface noise that completely smashes the virtual reality when a quiet passage comes along. As a composer I know that silence is also part of the music. And 2) changing sides every 30 mins. really sucks...
Rhapsody in Blue - Which one?
Buy them all. I do not really have a favorite and I really have never thought that way as it is tooo black and white. However I have one that I believe is a Telarc that also features "Catfish Row" that is excellent. Really, you should look at each...
subwooferability ???
Kgveteran;Ah, I agree the prices on many "audiophile goods" are unconscionably high compared to the production cost. But hey if someone wants to think that an amp, or CD player or even a cable is worth the money for the parts put in then well the ...
Favorite integrated amp?
I thought the new Arcams were just good marketing until I listened to the A85. Sweet, clean, light, and so very nice. Pick up Murray Perahia playing Bach Keyboard Concertos, or Vaughn Williams "Sea Symphony" and see if it does not move you. Or eve...
Omnidirectional speakers. The future?
As I see it progressing we'll be able to construct whole rooms that can transmit sound from any location to any location and only to that location. That way multiple listeners from any point in the room will hear the same as any other. Supermarket...
