Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Jb0194,If I were you I would use the lower viscosity 3000CST silicon fluid which is 20 times thinner. It will provide a lesser degree of damping and not hinder the movement of the cartridge and tonearm, a kind of best of both worlds. Having sai...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dear Headsnappin,I do use the damping facility but the fluid damper is only half filled with thin silicon oil, as I noticed that too much damping would deaden the sound. Without using any damping, the sound is livelier. So use it or not will depen...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dear Raul,Just as a reference, according to the measurements by, technical reviewer, Martin Colloms in Hi-Fi Choice (no. 20), the dynamic compliance of the AT 24 was 28 cu and 24cu for the Ortofon MC 2000(no. 38).
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dear Raul,I had an AT 25 many years ago which was a version of AT 24 with integral headshell. The dynamic compliance of both cartridges at 10 Hz was about 28cu which, by any standard, could be considered as high (higher than Ortofon MC2000 which i...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dear Raul,The sonic performance of the AT 1100 and AT 1120 tonearms is superior to the AT 1010 and 1503, when partnered with MM /MI cartridges, with which the AT 1010(16 grams) and 1503(20 grams) are handicapped by their high mass. The AT 1120 and...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Sorry! The AT 1120 arm does offer a fluid damper pot, though the counterweight is different. The mounting plate is an SME type.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Jb0194,I have the AT1100, 1120, 1010 and Signet XK50 (the Signet XK 50 is essentially a select AT 1100) arms in my collection; they are similar in one way but different in others. For instance, both the AT 1100 and 1010 arms have their vertical...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Raul, I have an Empire 2000E IV in my collection of MM cartridges which I think is a very good performer. Have you tried it and compared to the 4000D mk3?
Replacement arm for my Micro Seiki DD24?
The Micro Seiki MA 505 tonearm would be an ideal candidate, I think.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dear Rual,It is interesting that I had a measurement of 774 ohms for my VMS30 mk2 against 735 ohms of yours so it appears that all these Ortofon cartridges vary quite a bit in their coil resistance.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
I have had different findings with my VMS30 mk2 and both M20FL Super cartridges. I measured 781 ohms with the gold M 20FL Super but 706 ohms with the silver one (it was the same as the VMS 3 that I also have). I got a measurement of 767 ohms from ...

Vintage Denon Direct Drive Turntable
Lewm,As regarding to my plinth-less support, I am thinking to add a lining of sorbothane and sandwich between the skeleton base and motor unit to further improve the isolation and resistance to shocks and vibrations from other sources.I have done ...
Vintage Denon Direct Drive Turntable
Hi lewm,It looks like the Micro Seiki because that was the inspiration come from. I didn’t have the ability to do it but someone else did. One could simply take one’s design and ask a metal fabricator to accomplish the project, at a cost. By the w...
