Imaging and system stand placement
I don’t think it matters one bit to help imaging or necessary. Sure any placement changes can affect sound and imaging but that can be for good or bad, and depends on the room and what is already in it. It could make it better, it could make it wo...
Oregon Audiophiles...
Thought I commented on here before, guess not or I can’t seem to find it. I don’t really know any other Audiophiles at all. Not a single stereo store or activity what so ever out here. I’m in the Columbia Gorge, a little over an hour from Portland...
I am sick of Adele
I like Adele. She has some wonderful songs. Beats the pants off so much of the top 40 these days. I wish the recordings and mixes were Audiophile quality though. They range front decent to good and a few sound really nice. I think the gems are cer...
Upgraded banana plugs
Can I make a huge suggestion? Since you are playing around with things? Does your front end have a volume control in software at all? Not sure with your tube amps will be enough power alone but if you have software volume like on your squeezebox o...
Upgraded banana plugs
Silver and copper are the most conductive metals you can get. Your last banana plugs were probably brass with very thin gold over them. Brass is about 70% less conductive than copper, gold is 30% less conductive. Which is horrible for an electrica...
Thiel CS3.6 with issues: take the chance?
They typically sell for $1200 or so. See some for $1000 on Audiomart right now. Seen them as cheap as $800 even. Let me tell you about dealers. He very well knew about it, you think he didn't test it out and hear it? He did, it was just so small a...
New Thiel Speakers - Post Jim Thiel Era
Apparently the 3.7's will be replaced this summer with those "life style" looking white speakers. Most likely the rest of the traditional line will soon follow into the abyss. Appears all the in house construction and parts is being done away with...
Sound card for PC
XP was horrble for sound. Even using all the tweaks. They fixed it all since Vista onward. Actually I think windows 8 is even better than 7 and is the best so far for sound. You're going to be blown away by how much better the sound is with the ne...
'Holographic Sound Stage?'
The first time I heard a holographic soundstage was when I was young and looking for a surround receiver in 1995. I went into this store that had a sign that simply said "Stereos". I went in and I looked around puzzled. It was a very classy lookin...
Still mystified by mega expensive power cords
I make all my own power cords too. All wire has resistance. And will have a voltage drop for every so feet of wire and gauge. Go far enough and you'll have almost no voltage at all on the other side. There is even a calculator online that is accur...
Rush fans on the board ??
I love Rush. Listened to them to death about 10 years ago. All rushed out now. Did go to one concert of theirs. None of their new stuff ever grabbed me to much however. They are extremely talented (understatement). But I honestly think they need t...
Bi-wire: is it worth it?
Biwire is basically doubling up on the wire Gauge. If you notice a difference you would have most likely noticed a difference by just getting thicker wires. Think about it, it's now twice as much wire to conduct that signal. I really believe this ...
Interconnect cable
If I had cables just totally go missing I'd either move out of that house ASP and let the monsters have it, or get on meds lol. (that is seriously a little freaky that it's just gone though).
Is 10AWG copper wire sufficient
10 gauge is a great size. I had 12 gauge and upgraded to 10 gauge with 4 wires in it, so I doubled up on each spade. It's basically 8 gauge going to each terminal now. There was a definite big improvement in all areas.
Speaker imaging
I agree with the guy above. Also I just happened to try this the other day. Except I closed my eyes first, and then took off my glasses. Sounded exactly the same. So the sound wasn't changing. Taking them off while still open blurs everything visu...
