When someone tells you it's a $40,000 amp, does it sound better?
I hate displaying gear. Whenever someone comes over it's a distraction. I don't mind displaying the speakers but all the other complexity of gear it's just horrifying to deal with when someone starts asking questions. I'm not going to get into an...
When someone tells you it's a $40,000 amp, does it sound better?
Deer creek audio and dsp is great for two channel listening.  But they really don't have a workable solution for home theater DSP.     A good DSP arrangement solves a lot of room problems and equipment problems and is underrated and not fully app...
Diffuser panel design - overrated?
People have diffuser panels on their wall, they're not very big sometimes.   How much surface area do you need in a 14 x 16 room for it to make a difference? Isn't the diffuser panel competing with all the other irregular things scattered about?
When someone tells you it's a $40,000 amp, does it sound better?
Goes back to the problem of Breakin, most very expensive amplifiers are not broken in when you buy them. It takes a while. So what your hearing at the dealer if you're lucky enough for him to have a broken in higher-end amplifier that you have an ...
Preamps can color sound considerably. Surprising?
Pretty much all capacitors inside a preamp Color the sound. Are capacitors the sole culprit in coloring the sound? Great capacitors, like Teflon, allow the dynamics to be where they should be. The peeks and the valleys are respected. Assuming you ...
Diffuser panel design - overrated?
This is a cool answer, but if the diffuser is behind the speakers most of the sound is already going to the listener without going to the diffuser first.
When someone tells you it's a $40,000 amp, does it sound better?
No one is explaining why the price of an amp can be escalated so high? What parts can possibly be inserted into a box to make it so expensive? Are gullible people led to believe that it gets better than more you spend? That don't work and it's ...

you paint a utopia that few seem to be able to find. And older speakers can sound a lot better than newer speakers
When someone tells you it's a $40,000 amp, does it sound better?
What’s really troubling herein is that there really isn’t any explanation as to any special part or technique that creates a much more expensive amplifier. Further, electrical equipment which is very sophisticated requires a break in period. It t...

Thank you for the nice comment about tube amplifiers. Big problem is most dealers don't carry a variety of high-end components and comparing them it's not practical

Anyone successful hooking up a computer through a processor?
It's strange because every time I want to switch to the pc i get a no signal Display on the screen.  I fix it buy reinserting the HDMI cable, either side.  I have a really really good HDMI cable and a old one and they work the same in the situatio...
Preamps can color sound considerably. Surprising?
I found Conrad Johnsen preamplifiers Gat2 to be fairly neutral and not very complicated in terms of how they're built. They load up with Teflon capacitors and vishay switches, etc and this simplicity goes far. This way at least you don't have to ...
Preamps can color sound considerably. Surprising?
So I was lucky enough to compare a few preamps and this would’ve been really really helpful before I bought mine. But at the time, the preamps I wanted to purchase were not available at dealers and if this was the case highly unlikely I could com...

Guess a lot of it is how the harmonics are handled. Tubes being a lot less harsh then solid state.
