Should I upgrade to a one box player or transport?
Old, old, old!!. A good quality component is always a good one. A new one should offer better quality to be better. New is no assurance of better. Bel Canto 1.1 DAC is fine. Meridian transports should be tried first if possible.Luck
Need Help with Dacs.
Fellow A'goner: Wherever you find would be wise to test-listening first. Meridian 263 doesn't do upsampling but it makes music right.Better try a different dig cable or transport or both.Luck
Why buy older digital gear?
When first tried a Meridian 263 DAC with my Panasonic A-120 DVD player I stopped listening to sounds and gear and was pulled into music.Much later after replacing my Meridian with a Monarchy upsampler paired with a MSB II DAC the sense of musicali...
Have you ever deceived your wife-audio purchase
Deceive? My wife actually bought for me my "new" Musical Fidelity power amp.
Your First System

Egglestonworks Andra original versus Andra-II
Jpp59 wrote: "I loved my original Andra's and got frustated at times due to the lack of mid-bass/bass response but loved the midrange and top end. I impressed with the improved bass performance of the Andra-II but feel that something of the magic ...
Personal speaker evolution
Great question! All speaker replacing took place for room related or financial reasons. 1. Sennheiser HD40 headphones -$90-(Shoestring budget) 2. Acoustic Research AR5 -----$200-(A bargain !) 3. JBL homemade TL 15-inch ---$400-(High efficiency !) ...
any new Quad 11/12L owners?
Hi: New 12Ls. After moving speakers away from rear wall about 10 inches, plugged both rear ports with straws to flatten a 6 dB bump around 100 Hz. After the "strawing" peak is under 4 dB and low end is now -6 dB at 45 Hz instead of 50 Hz. Electron...
Noise in an old NAD 3020
Hi:My recently sold NAD 3020 use to "thump" when turned on and right after that one channel sounded like big sunami waves. Those noises usually disappeared in a couple of minutes. The solutions were: Push mute button before powering on and let pass...
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
Hi:Move forward your listening seat.Mine is a large upholstered sofa bearing on rear wall. There was in my listening room this consistent mid-bass "bump". Radio Shack SLM said +14 dBs around 100 Hz. Tried EQ, port plugging, speaker relocation on f...
My vote for Tweak of the Week
$485 ? for one thousand knobs ? Pal! that's really cheap !!LOL
There's a sucker born every minute
You don't understand. Substitute a few words and the meaning is crystal-clear. "The egg-shape of the AD-PERSON head provides the perfect environment for INSANITY to resonate and bounce out to the room rather than having BRAIN waves get lost in the...
Egglestone Andra 1 tweeter "crossover"
Dear Andra owner:Inserting a small-value resistor in series with the tweeter, after the x-over, will certainly lower the tweeter output without varying the factory's x-over point. The inmediate result would be a "smoothening" of sound in the treble...
Review: NAD 3020 Receiver
Hello:Having owned a NAD 3020 integrated 20wpc amplifier and having compared it against costlier equipment (ADCOM - Musical Fidelity - VTL) has convinced me that NAD is really special. It's also a slap in the face of those designers and manufactur...
Review: Musical Fidelity A-3cr Amplifier
Hi:Bought my MF A3-cr from a very careful audiophile friend. When first used it inmediately noticed a "relaxing" quality in sound never experienced before. Also bass has an impressive authority and definition. Not to forget the velvety black silen...
