The Magnificent Magnepan 30.7 speakers....wait, I don’t like planars!
Hi Pryso,Yes, that paragraph is confusing, isn't it? But what Wendell meant is that the *customers'* rooms are too small for big panel speakers, not the dealer's.Stickman, good point! I'm told they are coming off the assembly line now, so presumab...
The Magnificent Magnepan 30.7 speakers....wait, I don’t like planars!
I've been hearing a lot from Wendell about the varying acoustics at the dealers on the tour. He's been following this thread, and he's concerned that some will mistake the performance of the 30.7's in showrooms with sub par acoustics for the kind ...
The Magnificent Magnepan 30.7 speakers....wait, I don’t like planars!
Hey Efffer, I have a pair of IVa's as well! Mine are in a room that's only 13-1/2 feet wide -- it's been a challenge, but I can believe Wendell when he says that they work in a 14-1/2' wide room because the bass panel of the 30.7 are designed to g...
The Magnificent Magnepan 30.7 speakers....wait, I don’t like planars!
Don,I understand that the 30.7 has been selling well, to the delight of Wendell, who didn't know if they'd make any money off it or if it would just have valuable as a flagship. As I understand it, though, the smaller the model, the more it sells,...
Looks like a new Magnepan speaker is coming!!!
There's an early review up at TAS now, and it's a rave:http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/magnepan-307-loudspeaker-part-one/Mitch, all black so your wife doesn't notice them? :-)Mofimadness, several people asked whether the panels would be s...
New Magnepan 3.7 i ?
Brownsfan,In recent years, they seem to have been releasing one major upgrade a year. It wouldn't surprise me if they moved pretty quickly from a decision to make say a 20.7 to production -- it's not an entirely new model like the Mini Maggie, whi...
New Magnepan 3.7 i ?
Brownsfan, I think the 3.7i upgrade is straightforward, if a bit mysterious in terms of what's actually in it. I asked Wendell about more specifics, he said he doesn't yet know the details of how the upgrade program will work, but that the informa...
Emotiva amplifiers review/experience?
I also understand that the XPA-2 sounds better than the XPA-3 (and the XPA-1 better than the XPA-2).Anyway, the A21 is definitely well-regarded and would be high on my list of budget amps (relatively speaking, of course). I've always been a fan of...
'Holographic Sound Stage?'
I think the most holographic sound stage I've ever heard was on the Infinity IRS. If you'd heard it you'd know exactly why people refer to it as holographic -- it's as if you could walk between the instruments, so precisely are the delineated in t...
Emotiva amplifiers review/experience?
True, but we're talking $2300 for the Parasound vs. $700 for an XPA-2. So we're talking different price classes. An XPA should be easy to sell when it comes time to upgrade. Meanwhile, it's good enough so that I think just about anyone would be ha...
MMG 2.1 setup
Hi Stat33,The MMG's are good down to 55 Hz or so, and the DWM's should go down to 40 Hz or even lower. Deep bass fundamentals aren't all that common in music so it just may be that the material you're playing doesn't go that deep. Click on the cha...
MMG 2.1 setup
I really love the MMG's. I bought them as second-system speakers for my home office and couldn't believe what they do for $600.One caution, they take a while to break in -- you'll hear a big improvement after the first few days and then the bass w...
MMG 2.1 setup
Hi Stat33,I did get a sub for my MMG's, a Martin-Logan Dynamo, but soon right after I got it I scored a pair of Tympani IVa's here on Audiogon and my sub was too small to do any good with them so I actually never got to try it out.I can tell you t...
MMG 2.1 setup
The good news is that you don't need a separate amp to drive the DWM! Basically what you do when using the DWM's with the MMG's is to feed your two channel amp to the DWM's inputs, then the DWM's outputs to the left and right MMG. This feeds the M...
Why no reviews of the Magnepan 3.7 in Stereophile
FWIW, Magnepan has been advertising in Stereophile. They just haven't sent in speakers for review (and John Atkinson gets pretty upset when people suggest that a manufacturer has to buy an ad to get a review).
