How much of High End Audio is Horn Speakers?
To answer the OP’s question, we have to define ’horn’. Probably an XO-point of 1 kHz or lower, give or take 100hz for driver-integration. This includes reviewed & discussed brands Tannoy, Emerald Physics, Spatial Audio and of course reg horns...
American Audio
Hi-fi had two beginnings -the late 40s/early 50s (gear-Marantz, HK, HH Scott /Corner horns /LP low surface-noise).Then the early 70s when these brands went mass-market -or went out of business. Luxury-looks and higher prices were the feature. No a...

Audio: what took so long ?
The post was not anti-American. It was trying to figure out where audio-based research was happening. Before 1930, it was all American. This moved into our homes in the 50s -it took time due to depression and war. Then I see the Japanese audio scen...
Audio: what took so long ?
There was -but a lot of that came from research done at Bell Labs or Western Electric (in the 1920s/30s). This gave us great audio in the 50s.But more R&D was needed and we got it (in pieces) starting around 2000. Machining beryllium, OCC copp...
Audio: what took so long ?
I agree, we’re back. But from the 70s to 90s it was a little disappointing.Gov’t-aerospace R&D trickled-down to great component stands/footers (USA -Stillpoints, Critical Mass, Symposium). And Benchmark, Pass, Rick Shultz (High Fidelity) -outs...
GaN based SU-R1000 Technics Integrated Class-D, review by TAS
Unless he's a robust 82. They just can't hear above 15kHz, but maybe it's not even this high.
GaN based SU-R1000 Technics Integrated Class-D, review by TAS
I’m no EE, but I thought we can draw up to 1800 watts from the outlet. Are power supplies *that* wasteful ?
GaN based SU-R1000 Technics Integrated Class-D, review by TAS
The editor here says that A/B amps are "near perfect". WAY off...The review’s criticism fly-in-the-face of what every other review has said about these. Earlier digital-D’s -whether Technics, Lyngdorf TDAI or NAD M32 had no such complaints. Neithe...
If Power Cords Don't Matter...
millerecarbon forgot to mention the regulator, which have improved over the years (to higher speeds, like Hynes, etc)But it’s still not an ideal situation when the rectifier is ’forcing’ the inversion DC/AC. The line is already alternating w/ caps...
Designers -who's been around the longest ?
Any designer will do. Sorry to hear about the V-FETs. The bigger problem is what John Curl has been saying -HQ parts are not produced in good numbers anymore. The exception are the new GaN-FETs-but these are output-only devices. MSB makes a terrifi...
Designers -who's been around the longest ?
I’ll clarify -when their career in design began. The (2) I mentioned are their current co.
Does Anyone Think CD is Better Than Vinyl/Analog?
I’m surprised this is still brought up.There are many variables. Was the CD an analog-recording that wasn’t mastered right ? Are we using a transport that can-only read CD ? Dedicated-CD is better than multi-format.Is the listener using an R2R DAC...
Have speakers really improved within the last 20 years??
It depends on what type of speaker.Quality stand-mounts -yes, for a price. The good ones are north of 5k. Cone-material and cavity-noise were improved.Big-box cones -slow improvements, I’ve noticed better driver-integration -3 -ways were a tough-n...
Noise reduction -why the rage now ?
I never said the signal is part of a "waveform". I don’t know why you went off on this...Then, read any text on the subject, going back to the 1800s and you’ll see that "the wave carries the signal". Are you disputing this ?
