Preferred Audio Output, USB or 3.5mm?
If bluray audio catches on, then that would be great, but i wouldn't put any money on it at this time. Time will tell. I think hi res audio downloads fill this niche quite well. No need for encrytpted hdmi and multi channel avr's for those that ar...
Preferred Audio Output, USB or 3.5mm?
Since the original topic is about 2 channel, I don't believe regular HDMI to be the better connection. It's just not necessary and it isn't a superior connection compared to other, less expensive to implement options. SPDIF, usb and firewire is fu...
MacBook Pro or Mac Mini as music server
Rutgar, I don't think Apple offers a preconfigured mac mini with a 512 SSD option, but you can easily add your own or have an Apple approved tech do it for you. I can assure you it would be much less expensive then buying a mac mini preconfigured ...

Rutgar, you can do the same with the Mac mini. I have 8gb of ram and an ssd in mine and it works great. You can do this yourself or have Apple do it if you're worried about warranty.
Preferred Audio Output, USB or 3.5mm?
Hdmi is great for ht and multichannel applications, but I wouldn't use it for a 2 channel music setup. Some dacs use an hdmi connection for i2s, but that is different than your standard hdmi on a processor/receiver.On The Mac, I would look into a ...
Is my room big enough for the Harbeth HL5's?
I misread Dodgealum's post that I quoted. I thought he was saying the room was too small and clearly that wasn't the case.
Is my room big enough for the Harbeth HL5's?
"By my reading nobody has said that the OP's room is too small for either speaker."The room is not too small. Alan Shaw designed the SHL5 in a smaller room than what the OP has to work with.
Is my room big enough for the Harbeth HL5's?
The 5's should work fine in your room, but listen to both in your room if possible. I listened to both in the same room, same components and music and determined which one I liked better for the type of music I listen to. Newer doesn't mean better...
MacBook Pro or Mac Mini as music server
I've never heard a Mach2 mini, but they apparently add some top secret adjustments to your computer for optimum sound quality in addition to the hardware mods. For a turn key product, go Mach2. If you like to tinker or save some money, build your ...

I use pocket cloud on my iPad and droid to control my mac mini. Tried a few different vnc apps and the pocket cloud app seemed to be the best free one I tried. Check out audirvana before purchasing pure music or amarra. More info can be found on c...

Mac mini and a used or refurbished ipad. That combination should cost less than the Macbook Pro and will allow you to run the mac mini headless. Rowmote, itunes remote and Wyse PocketCloud VNC (free edition) will allow you to control everything yo...
Burson HA160D or Benchmark Dac1
Jmdesignz,No need to mess with the midi settings if you are using decibel. It will automatically switch them for you unlike iTunes.
HELP with MAC MINI and PS DIgital III DAC
Pick up a used hiface USB to spdif converter for around $100. I have compared the USB, optical and hiface with a ps audio dl3 and Mac mini and the hiface sounds significantly better to me. It will play sample rates up to 24/192 as well. USB is lim...
New Rega DAC
Check out the silflex glass mini optical. It is reasonably priced and seems to be well reviewed.
Bryston BDA-1 used V/S Wyred 4 Sound DAC 2
James63 - I found the complete opposite in my system when comparing the optical out of a mac mini and an inexpensive m2tech hiface connected to the coax input on my dac. The usb to spdif converter was a significant improvement. Of course everythin...
