Best drink while listening to your rig?
Smith & Woodhouse Port, with a piece of chocolate on the side.
Cables to mitigate CD glare -upper mids/lower hi's
Harmonic Technology Truthlinks or MIT 330. The Truthlinks are a little more revealing, the MIT more forgiving.
Any one try pa amplifiers for home stereo?
I have read some favorable comments in online forums about Samson Servo amps and the new Carver Pro digital amps. These amps probably will sound close to or maybe even as good as some entry level home audio equipment. However, if you are after "wa...
Do I need an headphone amp?
Does either piece of equipment have a headphone jack? If yes, then I would suggest trying whichever headphones you like with the headphone jack first. If no, then you will need to feed a headphone amp from the tape monitor circuit.I would suggest ...
Vandersteen users: How low can you go with tubes
In a small (10x12) room, I was able to use a 30 watt Berning EA-230, but this would not work in a larger room. I then got the 60 watt Quicksilver Mono's which worked fine for many years. I also used the 90 watt Silver 90's which had better bass th...
used sony or modified music hall
The Sony C5555ES 5 disc changer was being sold new for $600 not long ago. This changer plays both cds and sacd's (both 2 and 5 ch). I haven't heard the Music Hall, but the Sony wasn't bad sounding. Also is a decent transport for an external dac.
Inexpensive SACD player....?
Sony makes or made an inexpensive cd changer (model c775, I think) and an inexpensive DVD player that plays cds and sacd's. The DVD player was originally the DVP-NS500V which has been discontinued and replaced by the DVP-NS755V. The 755 is suppose...
Need help choosing new speakers
Assume you want a more romantic, less analytic sound. A couple of thoughts:1. You may want to try a simple tweak. I have cheaper B&W's and thought they can be too forward at times. One thing I have done is to add an AH! LS Noise Killer filter ...
New 1c's or used 2ci's
I have owned both the 2c and 2ce. I have a friend that owned the 2ci. I am also familiar with the 1b and 1c. Which is better will depend somewhat on your room size and associated equipment. The 1c is easier to drive, has a slightly warmer tonal ba...
Upper midrange glare prominence --
Suggest you try MIT interconnects on the CD player. Also, you may want to investigate the AH! LS Noise Killer filter. This is a series filter you connect to the tweeter connectors on your speakers. It effects a subtle roll off of the highs. I have...
Back to the audio future, going backwards
If you have a small enough room, try listening to the Spendor S3/5 driven by a modest SS integrated amp, such as a NAD (ARC Complete will probably work also). If you want audio fireworks or teeth gritting, analytic sound look elsewhere. However, i...
How to tame the high of harbeth C7
I am not familiar with your equipment, so I can't say for sure that the following suggestion will work. However, I was able to tame the brightness in my system with the AH! LS Noise Killer. This is a small filter that you hook to the tweeter termi...
need help for cable Thank
While I am personally not a fan of silver cables, I have read some favorable posts over at audioasylum about Bogdan cables which are available here at Audiogon for a reasonable price.
Quicksilver 8417 monos modified for EL34s
While I have not heard the modified Quicksilver amps, the EL34 tube is used in many amps and there is a lot of info available on this tube if you search around. Try the tube forum over at audioasylum.com. I have owned the Quicksilver 8417 amps as ...
