Building bedroom system.....speakers for it?
I also recommend Triangle speakers. I have the Triangle Comete ES in my bedroom and they are a little bigger than the Titus. They are coherent from top to bottom and don't need a lot of power. They sound great at night especially playing Avo Part'...
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
Great thread! I have heard deep bass live but not well done with home systems. The bass I have heard in home systems has been somewhat boomy and difficult to integrate. Also, the price for great home bass has always seemed prohibitive and difficul...
child-free environment?
My 2 children are now grown and 27 yo and 24 yo. My 24 year old daughter called me yesterday from Washington DC where she works and lives in a 400 sq foot apartment. Last year I gave her my old PSB Stratus Bronzes with a new Marantz integrated and...
Best Hobby related purchase of 2010
I bought a 45 watt Onix EL 34 integrated amp to drive my Triangle Celius speakers with grand results. I also set up a full system for friends who are a married couple down the street and who both love music but were playing it through a 25 yo rece...
What speaker for being close to rear wall?
I have a pair of Triangle Celius ES speakers in the living room and they are front ported and sound great 14 inches (back of speaker) from the back wall. They do not really change much on pulling them out further. I have a pair of Triangle Comete ...
Good Sound under $500
I have two pair of Triangle Comete ESs in two different small rooms and they are coherent from top to bottom and are bigger than the Titus and do not seem thin in the bass to me. Great small speakers and well priced if you can find them.
Last time you felt that "tingling" sensation?
Madeline Peyroux singing Dance Me to the End of Love written by Leonard Cohen. A song about a trust that goes from here to the end. I still get goosebumps every time I really listen. Also Jennifer Warnes singing The Ballad of the Runaway Horse aga...
Small-ish Speakers That Come Alive At Low Volume
I also love the Triangle speakers for top to bottom coherence and low level listening. I have the Celius ES in the livingroom and the Comete ES in the bedroom. The Cometes sound great at any sound level but are wonderful speakers to fall asleep li...
Other than music, why are you an audiophile?
Thanks for the idea of emergence. That is very appropriate. For me it is for the music and the challange of assembling a system paying attention to the law of diminishing returns. I have also always liked the glow and the smell of electronics. Als...
Classical music speaker recs for small room?
I would recommend used Triangle Comete ESs which are hot the newest model but can be bought for about $ 500. They are coherent from top to bottom and are easy to drive and sound great with all music but really great with classical. I have two pair...
which is your favorite inexpensive stereo system?
I agree with a Marantz integrated and CDP. Accessories4less.com has refurbished offers. I also agree with PSB but would consider Triangles like the Comete as a great stand mounted speaker that can be found at discount and can be a long term speake...
Small Floorstander/Monitor good with tubes
I would suggest Triangle Cometes which are coherent from top to bottom and a bargain as well. They are a benign impedence at 8 ohms and 92dB. It will be hard to get 40 hz from a monitor but room boundries can help. Triangle also has small floorsta...
Best Nancy Wilson CDs
My favorite is Nancy Wilson - Broadway My Way with As Long As He Needs Me and Make Someone Happy and If Ever I Would Leave You. Next would be Nancy Wilson Sings Songs of Lost Love with Who Can I Turn To?. She has a great elastic and expressive voi...
Speakers for Modest Tube System
I would agree with looking into Triangles. I recemtly bought from Upscale Audio a pair of Triangle Celius ES listing for $3000 but bought for $1649. They are and older model and other smaller models are availabe for less. They are musical and cohe...
Don Gruisens Raven- GRP
Two Worlds - a CD by Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour is a merging of jazz and classical and is one of my favorite CDs. They have guest performers but they both play impressive classical stuff. The guest classical performers do traditional, jazz, and c...
