Classical Music for Aficionados
My two pence, if you have Arrau Moravec and Pires I would say you have all bases covered.

I have just came upon Leonidas Kavakos new recording of Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin on Idagio and am very impressed by them. I find him to have a totally original approach to them in that he uses decorations in the repeats which no...
Headphone amp?
I would suggest you seriously consider a good Headphone amp for your Sennheisers . I also have HD800s and know they are a difficult load so a plug into the headphone jack of your amp won't do. I have The Luxman P- 750 u and my friend has a Pass La...
Lieder anyone?
I agree with you regarding The Four Last Songs in that I love Gundula Janowitz singing them but I also love the great Jessye Norman in them also. I remember one year going to the Usher Hall in Edinburgh for a performance of Mahler's Second Symphon...
Lieder anyone?
I too can see Rvs' point of view and totally concur. I don't listen to much lieder or opera for precisely that point , I usually read the notes or synopsis first and then listen to it for the beauty of sound. It usually is a great bonus as in jim5...
Lieder anyone?
My favourite lieder recitalist is Dietrich Fischer-Deskau singing Schubert's Wintereisse , so beautiful.
software filters
I use a DAW with Sound Forge 15 which is a full mastering program and can be used to gently tweak sound files or radically change them if you do not have any bass or treble. Once I have altered the sound file I then save it as DSD files which are ...
RCA cables to a subwoofer- how much does it matter?
It can all boil down to which kind of music you like. In a classical Orchestra there are a few sources of bass notes wind¬† percussion and string and each has a distinctly different type and timbre of sound. You also have low bass in hall effects s...
PC Audio recording from external digital source using PC Software/Sound Forge
I would stick with buying a Sound Forge package it's one of the very best out there and so easy to use.

This lament was penned after the the battle of Flodden in 1513 when King James the Fourth and nearly all the Scottish nobility were wiped out.
CD transport vs.streaming
If your streamer and CD Player sound the same then I would advise you to purchase the ENO ethernet filter from Network Acoustics and you will be blown away by how much better your Streamer could be.
Preamp recommendations for Quad IIs with ESL-57s
Well Quad did make a 33 and a 44 and I am sure one of those could be adapted to fit the older amps especially if you want to retain the Quad house sound.¬†
PS Audio DS w/Bridge II vs separate streamer/DAC
I have had a direct comparison of my PS Senior and a Denafrips Terminator 2 DAC in my own system. Maybe I am just biased but I much preferred my Directstream as the music from it seemed more organic and ( I hate this word ) Analogue. The Terminato...

Andras Schiff has a very well respected Brahms twin piano concertos that I can really relate to. I think he plays a nearly period Bosendorfer but to hear it you wouldn't know it.
