Most Effective Tweaks?
Mass loading my speaker stands with sand resulted in a significant tightening of bass. And it is a close to free as you can get.Speaking of free, and I know this going to sound trite to some, the single tweak that results in the most significant i...
Dan Hicks has passed away.
+1 mofimadnessOf all the sad news of late, this hit me the hardest. Dan Hicks has never been that far removed from my rotation since the early 70's. Such talent, stage presence and the ability to find such superb musicians to play with is not a co...
Onzow Zero Dust - cleaning the cleaner
Have to agree with ebm.  His post is a real piece of junk. :)Also agree with jsman.  A tiny bit of Dawn, rinse well with lukewarm water and air drying does the job very nicely.
Amplifier repair in the Baltimore/Washington area
+1 on both Protech and Music Technology.I have used them both. You might find yourself having to be patient as they both, in my experience, are usually pretty loaded with work. Often a sign of a good shop.
How do you spot an overplayed used lp without obvious scratches etc
Over the past few years I've found it has gotten a bit harder to discern differences since, at least in my area, more vendors of used LPs are using RCMs to clean their stock which results in the removal of a lot of the telltale signs of prior poor...
Spindle Holes
I've had quite a few new LPs with spindle holes that were a very tight fit and would bind on my VPI HW-17 RCM.  The $12 answer was in my shop, a T handle reamer. You can pick one up on Amazon, see the link below. In almost ever case I think it was...
Audio stores in N. Virginia?
Hey Tom-Welcome to the area.My highest recommendations go to Deja Vu Audio in McLean, which should be about a 20 minute drive for you. Vu is an really good guy, a super knowledgeable and engaging owner with a great set of ears. You'll be glad you ...
How NOT to sell an item on Audiogon
Now you've gone and done it Alpha_gt. You have set the bar so high that you may hold a record that may never be broken. It will be no easy feat for anyone to ever be able to get their tongues so far into their cheeks. Nice post. Gotta love the tru...
Naked Classic Platter
Prior to this past winter I did not use a mat, but found the amount of static electricity generated this winter to be more than I cared to deal with. I bought a Music Hall cork mat and immediately experienced a world of difference. While not compl...
For VPI Unipivot Owners, do you use antiskating?
Mine is a VPI Sound, a custom hybrid of the Classic 2 and Classic 3. Although it shipped with the anti-skating device it has never been installed. I also use the tonearm cable to achieve what I think is a proper amount of anti-skate.
Classic rock: best remasters
The Audio Fidelity (AFZLP 112) vinyl remaster of Ten Year's After's A Space in Time is simply stunning. Looks to be sold out everywhere, but I cannot recommend more highly that you try to find a copy.
Can Silver Interconnects be bright in your gear
I want to love silver interconnects. I really do. In my system every pair of silver interconnects I auditioned provided an astounding degree of precision, speed and detail when compared to copper cables. I loved it, I loved hearing details in reco...
Listening to Kenny Burrell Midnight Blue
Holy cow is right. And, if you are listening to Midnight Blue on a vinyl rig and really want to be blown away, get a copy Music Matter's newer 33-1/3rpm release of the title. Simply put...it's incredible. It's one of my current reference LPs when ...
Recommendations on Christmas Music??
