Anyone else grateful that they got hooked on this crazy addiction
I couldn't agree more with the OP.  Wednesday was a crushingly bad day at work, and when I got home late at night I put on Mozart's Clarinet Quintet and just breathed.  Oh, that was so rejuvenating....  I often feel deep gratitude for the immersio...
Maybe being discerning isn't that good for us?
@cd318  Yes, that was part of my education - - to learn that my finely tuned ear and reactions were over-active and miscalibrated for the normal people in my life.  They worked great in the special circumstances of a profoundly screwed up househol...
Maybe being discerning isn't that good for us?
Allow me to stand this on its head:  for many, things not being too good for us made us aurally discerning.  I learned this from a very good psychologist that my wife and I saw for marriage counseling (worked very well, by the way - - taught me so...
PS Audio BHK preamp owners
I played with this jumper setting on some Amperex 7308 tubes and I liked 4ma better than 5ma.  YMMV.  It's an option to try with the 6922 variants, but I believe you need 5 ma for the 12AU7's.  Pretty good preamp, especially for the $$$!
Sonos Play 3
Got one in our kitchen so my wife can put music on for the dog when she leaves.  Meh.  But I do like being able to have music on while cooking/cleaning.  I find that it really whets my appetite for the big rig!
Usless but interesting ....how many of you old timers started with original Large Advents?
Yep.  Large Advents from 1976 - 1987, when I heard Vandersteen 2C's really well set up.  That really began my high end fascination (and coincided with me finally working full time, and paid right).
What Possessed Me to Do This?
Because, very often, heavy sounds better....

2/3's of a power cord.
ARC 160M Meters
IIRC, Stereophile's measurements showed that the meters were a fair bit off calibration in their review samples.  That could be the case with your amps, too.
Should I replace capacitors in an old but working amp?
I enjoyed that amp in the 90's!  It's well worth keeping (even though I didn't....).  Yes, replace the electrolytic capacitors after 20+ years in any amp.  I did that with a tube amp and it was a very nice improvement. If you are handy with a solde...
Interesting study
Our sales manager loves to point out that "no sees the size of your bank account, but everyone sees your car".  I do think an awful lot of that goes into people buying cars. Now, the criticism that audio nuts buy expensive gear to impress others ha...
Does any one have a link to Playboys stereo systems of the rich and famous?
@wolf_garcia  Excellent points, all!
Interesting study
@mijostyn  Yes, of course, you are right:  there are those truck drivers.....  Some of them just do seem to be offended that you are even there.  You sure have to be a defensive rider!
unman M-900u for Focal Sopras 2 and 3
I was surprised that they didn't like each other, too.  I don't know the ME1.  The CR-1's do need some work so they don't present too "light", IME, and this seems to be the issue with the Luxman pre + amp driving them.  The pre with my BHK mono's ...
unman M-900u for Focal Sopras 2 and 3
I do think that the Luxman M900u has very promising sound qualities - - so much so that it gets me thinking about finding the right speakers to match it!  The TAD's are definitely not the right ones, probably more something along the lines of Sonu...
