My #@%$ Cat Destroyed My ARC REF 5SE. Soliciting Suggestions.
The cat is still alive?!?  Seriously, you probably have to view this as sunk cost and buy a used replacement.  There are a couple of folks that advertise to buy damaged top brand gear.  See if they'll give you some value?
PS Audio BHK lacking..
@surfmuz   It's a worthy preamp.  I ditched a VAC Ren Sig II for it, as it quite convincingly sounded truer to the music in my system.  For the money, especially used, it's a good value in sound and function.
PS Audio BHK lacking..
Interesting on your experience on the Psvane tubes.  Just goes to show how system synergy and personal preferences are so important.  Most folks on the PS Audio forum have preferred alternatives, as have I, but that certainly doesn't invalidate yo...
Should I bypass my Shunyata Hydra power conditioner?
I only have experience with the original Shunyata Hydra, but even with my dedicated lines I could not plug any amplifier into it happily.  They all got quite noticeably congested and closed-in sounding vs. direct to wall - - snuffed out dynamic li...
Tubes, to damp or not to damp?
I think it is situational to the gear and the tubes.  And some manufacturers seem to design their gear around the tubes with dampers, so it is part of the "voice", as it were (ARC for one).  But these damping devices aren't expensive, and it isn't...
6550 Replacement Tube for ARC Reference 6
Man, roberjerman, you really should try the proposed change before you comment, because you clearly haven't.  Making theoretical pronouncements with an arrogant tone is sad (capiche?).Even regulators influence the resulting sound of the component....
***Lets Talk Smart Phones***What Do You Us???ANY Set Up & Optimizing Tips For Audio???
Yep, my smart phone only works well as a controller for operating the Roon interface in my music server.  Even in a car the sound quality sucks compared to a CD.
Tubes, to damp or not to damp?
I'm a rubber formulation chemist and mechanical engineer, working in the field for 40 years.  Silicone can well withstand the heat generated by the vacuum tubes used in our typical audio equipment (can't speak to the massive exotic 160W SET amps!)...
PS Audio BHK lacking..
Something definitely sounds off with that particular unit's performance, and I suppose it could just be worn out tubes or poor tube choice.  I ran one for ~3 years with much satisfaction.  It replaced a VAC Ren Sig II convincingly in my system, an...
Should I bypass my Shunyata Hydra power conditioner?
Yep.  A whole lot of people have confirmed that amplifiers in particular are often not happiest plugged into power conditioners.  It can depend upon the conditioner, but most due seem to constrain the dynamic life a bit for an amp.
Everything Matters With Digital
Everything matters, IME, too.  Even when I hope it won't (USB cable? yep)It is tiresome that the self-appointed "saviors" wielding theoretical logic come here to save us from ourselves.  Their passion for riding their hobby horse seems telling.  W...
Beryllium Tweets
Yep, a broad-brush assessment is worthless about much of audio technology.  It all gets down to the implementation, whether it's with BE or silk.  Silly to float float praise or condemnation broadly.  It is only meaningful in specifics.
Magico Mini 2
@petzzz  I'm puzzled by your statement about bass in your 12' x 18' room, and I don't think you necessarily have to rule out some bass depth in your speaker. I had TAD CR-1's that performed very nicely in an 11.5' x 15' x 8' room, including with t...
I'm here for the enthusiasts, not the snobbery
I think all cars are basically pretty ugly, never understood the attraction to them.  But I'm a bicycling kind of person.  A guy in my Receiving department has dabbled with audio stuff in years past, and has clearly drooled at the goods that come ...
speaker recommendation for 35watt tube mono blocks
4th on the Ref 3A de Capo's.  It was my immediate thought upon reading the subject line.  And, yes, a well integrated subwoofer would be nice, too, but I have not found it essential with them.
