LAST Record Preservative: Thumbs up or thumbs down
I will give a thumbs up for the Last Preservative. I use the Last cleaner first, then clean with a Nitty Gritty Vac. Machine, then treat with Last Preserv. Into a rice paper sleeve, (VRP, VPI etc.) and vinyl nevere sounded so good. Surface noise i...
Reducing background fizz and pops on Vinyl.
My formula is very similar to the one mentioned above. I clean a new record with this formula, and then apply last Xtra Strength cleaner, then record preserv., then place it in a VRP or VPI rice paper sleeve. I have many records which are very ver...
Wright Phono pre-amp??
I have not heard the Wright Phono pre-amp, but I have recently heard a new one from Jungwurth Designs. It is a tube based phono preamp using 12AX7 tubes, point to point wiring, and very closely matched components +/- 1% unlike many that are within...
Speaker Cables?
The best cable I have found for long runs is the Cardas Neutral Reference, unfortunately, not cheap. There is apparently little loss of signal unlike the monetary expenditure. But if you can swing the change, I would try a set. Jeff
I GIVE UP
There certainly has been a lot of good advice. I have heard a lot of ML speakers SL3, Quest, CLS, and tubes do magic with them in the midrange. The bass suffers though. You may want to try the Music Reference RM200. This is designed to drive a low...
Bryston or Classe audio ? what do you think of both?
I have had both Bryston and Classe in my house and they are both very different. They are both high quailty pieces, but the sound is where they differ most. The Bryston is more neutral and they are textbook perfect for square wave reproduction. Th...
WATT PUPPY 3/2 WHAT AMPLIFIER?TWEETER
I have heard the 3/2 at length with several amplifiers. They sounded great in the bass with the Bryston 4BST, almost as good but fuller with the ARC D300 in the bass, and the Music Reference RM9 MKII was a good match. This using the Cardas Hex 5 g...
Tube amps for Maggie 3.5 or 3.6
Some of the best sound I have heard out of the Maggie 3.5's have been with ss gear. True, tubes do something magical, but the Maggies are magical in the midrange. What you don't want is brittle ss with them. The ss recommendations earlier were ver...
Parasound vs. Bryston
I gave up a Class "A" Stereophile rated amp for a Bryston 4BST. O, I didn't mention that the amp was a tube amp rated at 125wpc. I don't regret it. The Bryston isn't just another muscle amp, but a very delicate, smooth, articulate amplifier which ...
Silver or copper cables?
As usual with audio a shortage of opinions and emotions is not a problem. Back to the discussion about silver and copper. I didn't mention earlier that I talked with a transformer manufacturer in Las Vegas at the CES and he builds silver and coppe...
Silver or copper cables?
Silver if your components are laid back, polite, soft and you want a seat in row "D". Copper if you want a a fuller richer sound from leaner solid state or bright-lean tubes(some KT88 amps). Copper has more weight in the bass, fuller midrange and ...
Is it safe to run cheap wires?
I agree with the Radio Shack suggestion with one caveat...terminate with something other than twisting the wire. Spades, bananas, or pins. Using heat shrink is a good idea also. Protecting the binding posts from eachother is a bigger concern than ...
AC Conditioners?
I have used the Noisetrapper, Power Wedge I, improved power Wedge 1, the Power Wedge 116, and they all hummed. The newer ones aren't supposed to. They decreased the noise in grundge out of the AC, but they increased audible noise from their transf...
b&k or Bryston or McCormack?
I have owned the DNA1, B&K, and the Bryston 4BST. In my system, the Bryston was the most controlled in the bass and the most transparent in the midrange. The DNA1 was close. The B&K was warmer however. A very fine color, but pleasant. Almo...
Best ss Line Level Preamp under $10K ??
Searching for the best preamp under 10K is like looking for the best wine. The interface with your amp and source are very high priorities, and your musical taste is another factor to figure in the equation. Avoid what folks say is the "best" and ...
