Anyone tried to get customer service from TALON??
I've had 2 pairs of Talon speakers and Mike F has been to the house three times to install updates. He is still the chief design engineer for Talon and remains very active in the company. Richard provides a very positive business umbrella for the ...
Speaker match with Pass Labs XA-160
Talon Firebirds will sound heavenly with your XA160. I am trading X350.5 for XA100. I've been assured by designer of Firebirds that the XA100 will have plenty of power, so your 160 would be great match. BTW, I have Firebirds.

I'm not surprised, they will always recommend a healthy surplus of power. If I recall correctly, the claimed specs for at least the earlier 802 were somewhat optimisted as it had at least one dip down into the 3 ohm range. If so, the XA160 might h...

Tboooe,I've had the 802 (standard) in the house for an extended audition and they are very lively speakers. IMO the XA160 would sound the best with that speaker as the BW's could use a little softening and warmth. Power is still an issue, but I th...

According to Nelson Pass, himself, the X600.5 is the best all-around amp he has ever designed. SA-1 fans can join the Threshold SL-10 preamp fans and stasis fans, etc. but there's no getting around the fact that the current amps are better in almo...

Teajay,Thanks for the perspectives. I was also considering the XA160 for the extra wattage, but reasoned they are just too large and crank out too much heat to justify those 60 extra watts. Another sixty isn't all that much anyway once you have th...

Teajay,I agree with your perspectives on the X350.5. I've had one for a year or so and agree that it's very good. However, it lacks that certain something that I had with my Aleph 5, which was supplanted by an X350 due to its lack of power. The 35...
Review: DCM TimeWindow 1 Speaker
Mine are now in my downstairs system about 8 feet apart and only about 8-9 inches from the back wall (measured from back of cabinet). They are still up on the walnut stands but those are also up on a quasi raised hearth that's about 14 inches abov...
With SME Model 10 is it possible to get 78RPM?
Yes, 78s require a hemispherical stylus to ride the grooves properly. I hear that with the SME arms (especially the 309?) it's fairly easy to have additional cartridges pre-mounted to arm tubes/headshells for quick changes. I got a rackfull of pri...

Yes, I also have a response buried waaay back there somewhere over a year or so ago....what a thread! You're review was certainly spot on.I still haven't replaced my cat-torn grill material but I intend to. I'm still amazed at the performance of t...
Cable suggestions for my system
I have the Firebirds driven by an X350.5 and I recently switched from Tara Air 2 to Virtual Dynamics Master Bi-wire....AMAZING difference! I'd been frustrated by an upper mid hardness that didn't make any sense but the new cables cured it. I would...
Avalon Eidolon Diamond VS Talon Firebird Diamond
I'm jumping in 8 months late here, but since I have a pair of Firebirds, I thought I'd offer my two cents. The Firebirds do indeed have loads of very fast and accurate bass. However, without having heard the Avalons, I can make a few comparisons t...

I still have my TW's purchased in early 1979 and also had a pair of the TW-7's.....agreed, great sound. Unfortunately, a cat got to the original TW's in my downstairs system and tore the hell out of the grill cloth. Any suggestions on replacement ...
Matching preamp for Pass Labs Aleph 5
I had (still have in reserve) an Aleph 5 that I used primarily with an Aleph P (remote version), but tried other combinations as well. In summary, stick to balanced, and go with an Aleph P (good luck finding one since they are being vaccumed up in...
Talon Raven C Speakers
My Talon Raven Cs performed very well driven by a 60w/ch Aleph 5. Get the large 3" spikes from Talon, though; I heard significant bass improvement once they were installed. The Talon brass floor protector discs are also a good addition. I traded-u...
