Oppo 105 and Cary 11 Surround Processor
Sgr. A few quick things to be aware of and I'm assuming that in every case you will be using analog outs and lossless audio formats. 1) You won't get room correction and the bass management that offers. That's a big deal. I suggest looking at exte...
What Revel rear speakers to use?
Dear Simone,I can answer your question with quite a bit of experience on this front:1) I have an all Revel setup that has evolved over time. 2) When I was initially setting up my system, I had contemplated building around Focals, so I had gotten a...
Is the marantz SR7007 a good receiver?
In your specific scenario, I think you'll be very happy assuming you have heard the receiver and like how it sounds. Marantz makes great home theater gear.
Is the marantz SR7007 a good receiver?
OJ. Your question, the way it's phrased, can't really be answered well. "Good" means different things to different people. If I could rephrase your question, I would ask, good for...what? Home theater in a living room 12'x6'? Stereo listening? Use...
Emotiva UMC-200 vs Oppo BDP-105?
One step further is query oppo support. Their support is stellar. I'd be very surprised if the issue was the oppo and not someplace else in your signal chain--including speaker setup.
Replacing from Hurricane Sandy
I uses Revel B15 sub in a room far larger than yours and it is amazing. You can optionally consider 2 subs but it may kill your budget. I have a Lexicon running my main HT setup but I use an Emotiva x-100a mini for my zone 2 and zone 3. Kal in ste...
Replacing from Hurricane Sandy
If you have 4k-5k to spend, then I'd suggest tying to get a killer, used sub for around $1,500. Revel, JL Fathom, B&W, Paradigm, SVS among many good ones out there. For an amp, Emotiva gear is getting really good reviews for the money. So like ...
DAC with digital passthrough?
I found the answer to my own question so just reposting. There's an entire list here of the DACs that do just that: http://pooraudiophile.blogspot.com/2013/01/dacs-with-digital-bypass-getting-analog.html
dac with digital & analog out puts
There's an extensive blog post dedicated just to this topic that lists a few of the DAC models that feature digital bypass. Check out: http://pooraudiophile.blogspot.com/2013/01/dacs-with-digital-bypass-getting-analog.htmlThis probably has the inf...
Oppo BDP 95 vs BDP 105...
Depends on your needs, really. The 105 now acts as a DAC and had HDMI inputs to boot. Plus it has 4k scaling among other items. If any of those are needs then the 105 may be a good bet. But if you have your 95 and you are using it as a transport a...
Thinking of moving from AVR to pre/pro and amp
Soix has given you some good advice here. Biamping with your speakers and your setup will give you no audible benefit. In fact, you'd be better off spending that money to have a pro come and setup and tune your system. The allure of new equipment ...
DAC with digital passthrough?
I saw that the Cambridge Audio DAC MAGIC Plus has digital bypass for S/PDIF and Toslink. It's at $600, however and probably double what I wanted to spend. Anyone know of any other options? Looks like the DAC Magic 100 doesn't have digital bypass.
Subs: sealed vs. ported
REL subs are simply excellent subs. There are many good companies that make good subs. Personally I have a Revel B15; and if I hadn't gone Revel, then REL and JL Fathom would have been the other two to consider. You owe it to yourself to have REL ...
Looking for revel b15a - do i wait for new revel
I had heard an interview with Kevin Voecks last year (don't recall if it was from 2011, but I think so) where he was on a panel discussing bass response and EQ and he was talking about sub design. He spoke incredibly favorably about EQ in the lowe...
Looking for revel b15a - do i wait for new revel
Clarification: I was talking about the back panel proper with the manual EQ dials that used to be there. EQ is now outboard and is not the 3-band (manual) parametric EQ. Thanks for the clarification Kal! After doing it old school for years with th...
