soundproof a door
I disagree that your Solid core door needs to be "3 inches thick and completely sealed". You can get a decent STC rating (probably around 55-60) with a regular stock solid core door, and full gasketing all around. Use gasketing from the autoparts ...
integrated tube reccommendations
Audiomat Arpege. No remote, though.
Is There Big Trouble Brewing?
Most of those statistics are RIAA dervied (read: junk). A great deal of the decline of CD sales has come from the disappearance of the single. In fact, the amount of singles that AREN'T being produced (compared to past years) almost completely mak...
Active shielding. What is?
Active shielding is the practice of putting a positve DC voltage across the shield in an effort to lower the noise floor. It's really a matter of ratios. Shields have the tendency to pick up RF interference. By putting a voltage across the shield,...
$250 Computer Sound
The very best is the Acoustic Energy EVO1, but at around 600, it is out of your price range. You might be able to find some used. Cheers!
Need advice: Integrated amp for BW 804s
The Plinius 8150 would also be an excellent choice. I have heard B&W with Krell, Mark Levinson, Rotel, McIntosh, and Plinius integrateds, and the Plinius was decidedly the winner on all counts. Hope this helps!
Office Meeting Room Buildout
As for speakers, I'd recommend any of the Tannoy dual-concentric ceiling speakers or in wall speakers. Also, Electrovoice EVID speakers sound very nice as well.As for electronics, your best bet would probably be Xantech. They make a whole line of ...

Totem Dreamcatcher 5.1 speaker system - thoughts?
I love this little system. Very hard to beat for the money involved. Not the last word in resolution for sure, but if WAF is a big deal, this is the way to go.
Vienna's vs. Bose Lifestyle 35
Linn Classik is a given for the source and amplification. Speaker choices are the matching speakers that Linn makes (which, IMHO, sound far better than could be expected), Gallo (not a big fan of these at all), and Totem Dreamcatcher 5.1 (my favor...
Funky/fusion jazz with heavy base emphasis....
Second Victor Wooten. Check out Wooten's pet project "Vital Tech Tones" for crazy funk/jazzy bass heavy stuff. He's insane. Seen him solo, with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, and he never ceases to amaze. Cheers!
300B amp options
Get the Billies, with all the goodies. Do the modifications when you are building the kit, and it will save you time later. Be sure to get the TJ Meshplate 300B's. They make these babies sing! Must do modifications include the grid choke mod as me...
Best of the Best Ofs
Best of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer.
yet another biwiring qeustion...
No, more power wouldn't go because it was hitting it first. There might be a TINY bit more power going on one cable because it has less resistance, but this is a non-issue. You'll be pleased with the results of what you are doing. Cheers!Brian
