cheapest speaker made in the last 10 year that can beat any speaker made before 1970?
In my opinion, can't be done.  Once you get into "hi-fi", too much comes down to taste.  My speakers were built in 1958 and sound better than most of what I have ever heard, at least to me.  Then you get into age of design verses manufacture date....
DFW Area Home Theater Contractor for Installation or Setup Advice?
You might try the local show and see if you can find someone.  Listed by @calvinj
Speaker recommendations :-)
I will just say that what I would choose, is what I have heard.  Others might say, they are old dinosaurs and there is so much better out there.  The best "jazz" speakers I've ever heard are JBL L150a's.  To me the L150a, you feel like you are sit...
Amplifier pairing for Altec Flamencos
@antigrunge2 is right, in my opinion.  I'm guessing them to be very efficient speakers.  I couldn't find an efficiency rating on line for them.  I have the VOTT's and drive with a SET at 6 watts/channel from Decware.  The sound/music flows out of ...

https://www.subwoofermania.com/2022/12/advance-paris-xi-1100-dac-amplifier.html So much more to this.  Speakers always need to match the power.
Need tubes tested Las Vgeas Nv
Audio Xpert.  They seem to be full line service.  I'm guessing they can look at your tubes.  I bought a Threshold amp from them a few years ago that still sounds wonderful.  One challenge if you have "some" bad ones is matching new with what you h...
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally!
I had some 3.5R's and loved them.  I found them as power sensitive as a rock.  You are right about the power.  As such, there is a definite improvement with these speakers with as good of speaker cable as you can afford.  Bass - I ran mine with a...
Do you play any...?
When I was a child, my mom took us to watch this guy named Van Cliburn.   Needless to say, I was hooked.  I believe I was 5 years old.  From there I dove into my parents and grandparents vinyl and found a record from Clyde McCoy, "Sugar Blues".  W...
Pass Labs XP32 or XP22?
Go to the source, no one knows more.  I would call or email Pass Labs and discuss with them.  There's a guy that just does the preamp design and guessing you can dialog with him.  I believe it is Wayne Colburn.  Let them know exactly what you are ...
I noticed brightness/harshness more than usual from my system a couple months back.
The options for the change are infinite.  @stereo5 is absolutely correct.  You have got to play detective first.  I have had a single tube weaken, a mid-range with a hiss, caps blown and simple fuses.  Time to play detective. You can't address wha...
Spending a month's salary
Audition, audition, audition as much as you can.  If you are close to Chicago, they got the show coming up in April.  You are looking for something for your ears that you like.  You have mentioned a smaller room, so where you are listening, see if...
Decware and “The List”
@grinnell what is your feedback on what you acquired?
Decware and “The List”
@grinnell You, you are the man.  This is not an easy catch.  I'm just curious, you looked every day for how long and what did you end up with?  Was it what you were looking for?  Was it on Audiogon or where did you find?  This can be a grail searc...
Record Store Day
Better yet, what do you have your ear on?  Dave Brubeck Time Signatures for me.  I guess you have to have a goal.  This is a nice novel for the ears.
