Wildly fluttering woofer
When you get your equipment back, you'll appreciate it all the more. If you need someone to proof read your website, I can ask my daughter, she's very good. She majored in English (which most people think is a worthless major unless you're going t...
Lightning
Respectfully, it is no secret that lightning wants to reach earth ground by the path of least resistance, but that is a simplistic view as I believe there are other things going on as well.http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/electric/lightn...

The big thing around here is Rook Coffee Roastershttp://www.rookcoffeeroasters.com/There's one not too far from my house. Not at all fancy, it operates out of a converted garage. No tables or chairs, it's take out only. Unbelievably popular, never...

I am going to check out Ukulele Orchestra. The name alone has my interest. Have you ever heard Vaughn Williams "Concerto for Tuba"? I couldn't resist that title. When I landed on my head the force broke C1 into three pieces. It's called a Jefferson...

That kind of fracture can take a while to heal, as you are coming to realize. Sucks about the car, I can relate. I broke my neck 7 days after purchasing a new Subaru Outback and wasn't allowed to drive it for 4 months. A couple of times I sat in i...
Lightning
I forgot to mention before, but one of my amps that wasn't even plugged in got fried by the hit. My theory is that the huge moving charge induced a voltage in the amp's mains primary. The tech that looked at it said every single component in that ...

Contact your insurance company. The same thing happened to me and lightning does what it wants to do regardless of any protection you think you may have. If you can prove you took a hit, even indirect, you'll be covered as long as you had it in yo...

Katz1,Sometimes you don't have to do anything major to improve the sound. Changing stock speaker crossover capacitors is one thing that can be done easily and reversed if not satisfied. My favorite thing about changing capacitors (any capacitor) is...
Lightening and Tuner Display
You had the power protected by the surge protector, but what about your antenna? All that static in the air gets picked up and will find the path of least resistance to ground. If your antenna doesn't have a path to ground, your tuner sure will.Yo...

Before you give up on the old girl, why don't you join Vinyl Engine and download the service manual. http://www.vinylengine.com/library/harman-kardon/st8.shtmlThat's what I did four years ago when the speed control went on my HK T60 table and I s...
increase power amp sensitivity
If the attenuator plugs work out for you, once you roughly figure out how much attenuation you need, you could put a "passive preamp" (stepped attenuator switch) before the louder amp to fine tune the levels.
increase power amp sensitivity
Like Al said, there's not enough information in your post to make an informed suggestion. But I had another idea that may be a worthwhile alternative. Why not simply attenuate the (louder) woofer amp before modifying the tweeter amp? Parts express ...
Music on NAS-Recommendations to play on HIFI
I have the files on my main computer and a NAS (Network Aware Server). The NAS is connected to the router and stands alone as a file server. In this manner, any computer on the local home network can access the NAS directly without having to share...
Grado platinum 1 cartridge compliance
I can't answer your question definitively but I can offer some experience and a direction for you to proceed.I have a Grado Sonata1 that has been on a Harmon Kardon T-60 and a T65 TT, each of which uses a straight Micro-race tonearm by Ito. Prior ...
When do you choose vinyl over digital?
The problem with some vinyl is that different issues of the same recording often don't sound the same. If I'm buying used, I look for the original press, which is difficult unless you know what you're looking for. First pressings are usually the b...
