money AND time. How do I get both?
That's 12 hours a day 7 days week. That is also ridiculous.I don't know what your definition of "plenty of money" is, but there is not enough money in the world to make me work that much. Life is too short. There is too much to do.
Thorens TD180
According to the bluebook a TD180 MKIII sold new for $475 in 1995 with cartridge. Any one who can solder and drill a hole can easily put a set of output jacks on it for you.Email [email protected] 718-847-4289Contact Helmut Leitner, Nathan R...
Would you sleep better at night if.....
$2500 is a lot of money. I can't imagine that you would be better off spending that on some other component than cables. You could buy a decent analog rig and a bunch of albums for that kind of money. Don't get hung up on equipment, buy some music.

Amplifier Transformer Hum
Sometimes the hum is caused by a light dimmer. The dimmer works by chopping off AC cycles and this generates a lot of electrical noise. Torroidal (donut shaped) transformers are especially susceptible to this. When the light in my range hood is on...
Rodney Crowell, anyone heard the Cicadas?
The Cicadas was a group that included Crowell. As far as I know they put out one album in 1997. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000002NDA/qid=1013958229/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-0750570-6113750
Against everything that high end cables stand for
My Dear Msnloeth, I can hear the difference between many different cables. I stated my belief that cables do indeed make a difference in my previous post. My point is that the equation "more expensive = sounds better" is not always true. I have au...
Against everything that high end cables stand for
After years of trial and error I have found that cables are highly system dependent no matter what they cost. The cost of $40 or $4000 has little to do with how they sound with your system. You have evidently found a set of cables with properties ...
Is it the cable or the cartridge or????
You should be using a shielded cable from the turntable to phono preamp. The signal level from the cartridge is very low so the gain of the preamp is very high. Any noise picked up by the cable will be easily heard. The blue heaven has no shieldin...
Passive preamp and biamping
Why is having to turn it up to 1:00 a problem? Anyway, biamping will not change things too much but will actually lower the volume. Probably not enough to notice though. The gain of the amps would have to be the same to keep things balanced. So in...
What can you do about a nonselling seller?
Forget about it. It's irritating but life is too short to worry about such things.
Help me find this sound
I have a Conrad Johnson dv2-b player that I really like. Nothing at all fatiguing about it. Very musical, very under rated. They also made DACs that can be had for a very good price. Check their web site in the classic products section.
Best source of lead shot?
That's just great Fatparrot! First I'm worried about the lead dust, and NOW I have to avoid getting too close to my outlets for fear of getting zapped by leaping electricity. Is there anything else I should be concerned about? I've already lined m...
Any way to shield a non-sheilded center channel ?
Sean, continuing on in ignorance is not too bad. I've been doing it for years. I agree that installing an extra magnet in the your speakers is probably a bad idea. I just pointed out this design technique in the hope of clearing up some of the con...
Any way to shield a non-sheilded center channel ?
On first reading I missed the comment about the ground above. Connecting the metal plate to an electrical ground like an outlet cover screw will have no effect. Magnetic flux lines cannot be grounded, they must be guided away from the TV via some ...
