What are the best monitor speakers for classical?
I second the mention of Lipinski's - lthough I only heard them with/without a Lipinski sub. You might also try to find a used pair of Celestion SL700s. 
Most achingly-beautiful music
Although I mostly listen to classical music, it is hard to beat Eva Cassidy's later recordings - particularly the album "Live at Blues Alley" when she already knew that she was dying (from melanoma). 
Monitors Suggestions for my setup
There are all sorts of used speakers in your price range. I have Celestion SL700s. I would add: SL600s or SL6s, Spica TC50, and any version of the LS3/5a monitor. 
Best speakers for off-axis listening
My budget is up to 9-10K. However, I want to do this right and only do it once for the next 12 years.
