CD Player w Volume control-Suggestions?
I think you are on the right path. If I had a cd player with a volume control and enough output, I would drive the amp directly. By putting another piece of equipment between the cd and amp you are introducing an entity that may color the music. T...
Speaker Cable Suggestions?
Rick, thanks for the correction. I meant to type soundstage. I plead guilty to not proof reading before clicking submit. Any ideas on why it was improved?
Very strange interruption, ideas?
Are both ML's plugged into the same outlet? If yes, try resetting the circuit breaker that controls that outlet. Please let us know what you find so we can offer more help if needed.
Speaker Cable Suggestions?
I don't mean to be skeptical, but how does sitting your amp on a bicycle innertube improve imaging? I can understand eliminating low frequency feedback from the speaker to the amp but how is imaging effected? No disrespect intended, I just don't u...
Power cord or conditioner for ARC VT100?
Please, before you purchase anything get those outlets grounded! The line cord and conditioner are absolutely useless without a good ground at the outlet. It could potentially be dangerous also.
Best Sounding Passive Preamp
I assume that your source has enough output to directly drive your amplifier. If your source has the ability to control it's output level why not scrap the passive preamp and go directly to the power amp. You will eliminate any unwanted coloration...
What to look for in a multimeter?
Depends on your application. If you plan to use it for simple voltage, current and resistance measurements almost any meter will do providing it has enough resolution for your intended measurements. If you plan to make any AC current measurements ...
How did U get into this expensive hobby?
Back in 1972, to graduate with my EE degree I was assigned the design of an audio power amp as my senior project. It did not take long to find out I was not Gods gift to audio design. I designed and built a 50 watt, no fidelity amp. After graduati...
Speaker Enclosures
Wow! You guys are unbelieveable! I did not expect to get so much good info, so fast. I will be checking out the site that you all graciously pointed out. I have two systems at home. I have an old Threslold Stasis amp in one and an Aleph 5 in the o...
Speaker Enclosures
Gents, once again, great responses! My first love is wookworking, then audio. Now that the kids are gone, both woodworking and audio keep me busy in my spare time. I initially thought of copying the Theil 3.6's because I have some Theil drivers th...
Cheater plugs with amplifiers?
Jab, reverseing the plug will not help this gentleman with his problem. The problem has to do with ground loops. Ground in this case has a little extra resistance through which some parasitic currents are flowing which is inducing a voltage. Float...
Speaker Enclosures
Thanks all for your input. I think I will scrap the idea of using granite for the enclosures. The properties that make granite the ideal choice for speaker enclosures also make it the most difficult to mill and fabricate inexpensively. I have some...
Really good home electrical wiring.
Thanks for reminding me! I forgot to mention to tie it to the ground the power company gives you. Thanks for the correction.
Really good home electrical wiring.
I suggest you do not use house ground. Run a piece of 3/4" flat braid from each outlet to a 15' salted ground rod sunk into non sandy soil. If you can afford to do this, this is about as good as ground gets.
Do Dealers think it is sinful..........
Kendall43, sorry to shake your tree but I don't believe you either. I live in NYC where there are many, many Hi-end dealers and have yet to find one that discounts 25% across the board. Oh, and lose the attitude, we are all adults here and there i...
