VPI phono cables. Is there better synergy?
I used VPI phono cables with my TNT for over a year. Based on recommendations from two fellow Agoners, I tried a set of Purist Audio Venustas. Probably the most significant change I've experienced switching cables. I did cook them before use, so t...
Cartridge recommendation for VPI HR 6
I also have a TNT 6HR with the 12.5 arm and used a Shelter 501 for some time. I always thought that the sound was excellent, until I replaced the cartridge with a Dynavector XV 1s. No knock on the Shelter - I still think it's an outstanding value....
Excellent Outdoor FM Antennas
I'll second Talon4. I'm using an APS-9 on a ten foot mast on my roof. Not a high WAF, but it sure gets the job done. I also agree that Rich Modafferi does terrific work on tuners. He went through my Marantz 10B, and it has never sounded better.
Mint LP a no go – now what?
I wanted to post a follow up to the previous comments. I took Johnbrown's advice and contacted Steve at the Analog Dept. He was great to deal with and he had a protractor on hand for my 12.5 arm. He sent it the next day and I received it a couple ...
Mint LP a no go – now what?
Oddly enough, there seems to be some variation in the measured numbers - which wouldn't seem to make a lot of sense. Although it may become apparent that the VPI system is preferable, I'm curious enough to try an alternative or two. If nothing els...
Mint LP a no go – now what?
As suggested by Johnbrown, I contacted Steve at The Analog Dept. He is sending me his protractor for the 12.5 arm - I'm looking forward to trying it out.
Mint LP a no go – now what?
I should have been a litle more specific as to how this played out. I want to be clear that VPI did indeed provide the arm to spindle distance, the overhang and the amount of adjustability. When Yip plugged this information into his formula (Barew...
VPI TNT balancing
Thanks every one. As I mentioned, my dealer is contacting VPI - I believe they return on the 16th. Suspect hifibri may have hit on the solution, i.e., a heavier counterweight. I'm just a bit surprised that no one else has encountered this, as was ...
VPI TNT balancing
I did sacrifice a bit on the cartridge to get the rest of my system in place. I'll be looking to upgrade the cartridge within six months or so. I'm happy to hear suggestions as to replacements. As to my current situation, my dealer is going to con...
Koetsu cartridges - myth or reality?
I've been considering a Koetsu as well. I'm curious as to opinions as to which arms match up well. I currently have a JMW 12.5 on a VPI TNT 6. Thanks!
Anybody know anything about the marantz model 15?
Their address is 3501 Old Vestal Road, Vestal, NY (see their website). Just an FYI - I'm not affiliated with them in any way.
Anybody know anything about the marantz model 15?
I've had mine serviced at Audio Classics. They do an excellent job and stand behind their work. I've replaced the 'green' bulbs before on my own. If you take the old bulb (the face panel pulls off) and your repair manual to an electric supply stor...
Why spend megabucks on a tuner?
Please indulge a dumb question. How can you tell if a particular station is transmitting a compressed signal? In the interest of a point of reference, Kusina - I'm about 60 miles south of Boston, but can pick up many of the Boston stations. Which ...
SDS question
Just following up on Starcons' comments, I was at 60.54 before hooking up my PS Audio PPP. Now the SDS is at 60.00 and my turntable sound is noticeably improved.
More than one CD player
I have two CD players, one is a Sony SCD-1 that I use for more serious listening and the other is a Sony C333ES that I play whe guests are over. Although the SCD-1 is clearly the better performer, the 333 sounds decent, all things considered. As a...
